Medical Laboratory Technician at DEDA Hospital

Job Objective

To collect and analyze body fluids or tissues, collect and conduct blood tests and examine cells to give qualitative and quantitative lab based tasks aimed at informed medical practice and procedure that can help tackle major diseases.

Tasks & Responsibilities

• Accepts, Registers Patients’ requests and Records patient’s test results.
• Collects blood and other specimen from the patient (Phlebotomy).
• Documents, Prepares and Tests collected samples or specimen.
• Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling; sorting specimens; checking labeling; logging specimens; arranging reports for delivery; keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.
• Maintains patient confidence by keeping Clinical Laboratory information confidential.
• Presents results to Clinical Tech. 2, Clinical Scientist or Clinical Lab. Head for clarification.
•  Keeps track and files the incoming and outgoing lab requests and results.
• Assist the Med. scientist to bleed, match donors’ and recipients’ blood types for successful transfusions or transplants.
• Cleans, washes and sterilizes Lab glass-wares and work benches/surfaces.
• Participates in maintaining the quality of results by assisting in the calibrations of machines, monitoring equipment function through routine equipment maintenance.
• Contributes to a safe & secure environment, Improve patients’ satisfaction & Experience, Customer service relationship, work well with physicians, Admin Staff & Clinical staff by following established Hospital & Clinical Laboratory policies, standards of operations and complying with legal regulations (e.g. Patients’ Bill of Right etc.).
• Maintains patient confidence by keeping laboratory information confidential.
• Assist in the use of machinery and computers in specimen analysis and record keeping.
• Helps to adjust, maintain and clean medical laboratory equipment.
• Obtains specimen, cultures, isolates and identifies microorganisms for analysis.
• Examine cells stained with dye to identify abnormalities.
• Collect blood or tissue samples from patients, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood sample.
• Supervise and give valid instruction to newly employed Clinical Laboratorians, Laboratory assistants and Industrial Trainees.
• Prepares stock reports for audit purposes.
• Monitors use of consumables and informs relevant offices when approaching minimum stock level.
• Ensures safety measure are practiced in the clinical Laboratory.
• Ensures successful testing by following Standard operating instructions.
• Documents information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
• Participate in team bonding exercise, department meetings, and all-hands meetings
• Participates in Clinical Laboratory seminar presentations, Clinical meetings, and departmental meetings.
• Ensures the laboratory is well-stocked and resourced and that everything purchased items have not expired.
• Handles any other duty assigned by the Clinical Laboratory Head and the Supervisors.
• And any other adhoc duties as assigned

Educational Qualification

• Laboratory Technician Certificate
• Required Experience
• 1-3 years experience
