Job Description
As the Account Officer, you will provide support to the financial department by managing daily accounting tasks. The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the department and help the company be fully aware of its financial condition, this way it can make the right decisions and accomplish long term success.
Your core responsibilities will include to:
Post transactions on Quickbooks and processing journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
Ensure timely remittance of statutory payment: PAYE, Pension, Value added tax (VAT) and withholding tax (WHT)
Update accounts receivable
Ensure all control accounts relating to Payable, receivables, cash and bank are reconciled and are in agreement with trial balance
Assist in processing of balance sheet, income statements and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines
Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
Handle petty cash disbursement and bank transactions
Participate in monthly stock count
Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings
Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you need
Demonstrated leadership skills and commitment to challenging the status-quo to make things better
Excellent organizing abilities
Great attention to detail
Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software (QuickBooks and SOS)
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role
Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or an HND in Accounting or related discipline from any recognized institution
Experience working in the retail industry will be an advantage.
Qualifications (ACCA or ICAN) certified is a plus but not required
Knowledge of Microsoft Excel required
