    Legal Associate (Diversions)

    Who we are looking for.

    • We are looking for a Legal Associate (Diversions) who will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing all aspects of our legal disputes and litigation matters.
    • The successful candidate will provide strategic legal advice, handle negotiations and represent the company in various legal proceedings.

    Desired Attributes: 

    • Strong analytical skills and demonstrated ability to understand complex legal concepts and analysis and translate those to non-lawyers to create practical processes, guidance, and training.
    • Demonstrable legal analytical skills, general business acumen and expertise in several of the core areas of work listed below:
      • Criminal law
      • Employment law
      • Contract review and management
      • Compliance and Anti-Money Laundering
      • Corporate Governance
    • Strong project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Strong teamwork and client service skills; experience exercising influence and managing change while having an open and inclusive tone; solution oriented.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, growth-oriented global or regional organization.
    • Administratively self-sufficient with demonstrated skill with Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
    • Have a very high level of personal and professional integrity and trustworthiness.
    • Strong work ethic and require minimal direction.
    • Innovative and creative thinker; you’re not afraid to try something new and inspire others.

    You will

    • Review processes (litigation/arbitration) and manage the business’ response in a professional manner with key focus on Kobo’s interest.
    • Interface with external counsel in Nigeria and any jurisdiction as may be assigned by the Global head of Legal
    • In conjunction with security personnel, investigating actual or potential cases of diversions of goods. The candidate must be willing to travel across the country to resolve issues pertaining to missing, lost or damaged goods.
    • Advise on day-to-day legal issues, analyzing legal risks of ongoing and potential issues and providing opinions regarding same.
    • Strategize with external counsel on best approach to be adopted in the prosecution of claims by the Company and defense of claims against the Company, attending court/arbitral and other proceedings.
    • Lead negotiations, drafting, and reviewing various contracts and commercial transactions.
    • Possess and maintain an in-depth knowledge of government regulations and policies, and a deep understanding of their impact on the business with an ability to translate that understanding into actionable guidance for the business teams.
    • Prepare and review agreements with counterparties taking into consideration regulatory requirements, Company’s policies, and existing commitments with third parties.
    • Collaborate closely with the rest of the legal team to ensure seamless provision of services support to the company.
    • Advise on compliance and regulations governing the Company’s activities to limit potential exposure.
    • Advise and assist different departments in the company to resolve legal issues including customer and regulatory concerns.
    • Ensure corporate governance compliance and compliance with anti-money laundering regulations.
    • Prepare reports and presentations to senior members of the company as may be required.
    • Advise the Group Head of Legal on regulatory and supervisory provisions, directives legislations and licensing requirements affecting the company’s operation and objectives.

    We're looking for someone who has

    • LLB, BL. LLM from a reputable institution is an advantage.
    • 6-8 years post call experience, 4 of which must be as a litigator from a reputable law firm.
    • Experience advising senior management of complex, international organizations.
