    University Librarian

    Description

    • The University Librarian shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University Library and the coordination of Library services in the University.
    • The candidate shall be visionary, have the ability to provide good leadership and commund respect and loyalty of staff of the University Library
    • He/She must also possess personal integrity and demonstrate transparency in private and public life.
    • The candidate must have great leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.

    Requirements for the Candidate

    • The Candidate must possess a good honors Degree in any discipline plus a Master Degree in Library Studies / Library and Information Science / Library Technology etc from a recognised University and are cognised professional qualification in Librarianship and possess at least ten years' post qualification experience in the library of one or more higher educational or research institution(s).
    • Possession of several scholarly publications, administrative experience, and ability to provide academic leadership is required.
    • Candidate must have served for NOT less than three (3) years at the level of Deputy Librarian or Associate Professor in a tertiary institution.
    • The candidate must be highly computer literate and proficient in the use of MS Office, and other computer applications as applicable to the running of a complex and modem University Library.
    • Membership of relevant professional association is mandatory. Possession of relevant Ph.D degree will be an added advantage.

    Age Requirement for the Job:

    • Candidates for the position of University Librarian must be below the age of 60 years at the point of assumption of duty

    Terms and Conditions of Service Applicable to the Position

    • Successful candidate shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years on such conditions as may be specified in the letter of appointment. The rensaneration and other conditions of service as applicable to the position are as may be determined from time to time by the State Government/Governing Council of the University.

    • Names and Addresses (including telephone numbers and email addresses) of Three Referees (who should be able to attest to the candidate's standing and abilities, professionally, and managerially, as well as morals, character and integrity)
    • In addition to the above, candidates must submit a statement of intent of not more than 1500 words that addresses the applicant's approach to management of the University Library. In addition, the state should identify the challenges, envisioned and proposed mitigating strategies and innovations shobe will bring to the table as a change agent

    Submission Instructions

    • Each applicant must request each of his/her referees to forward, direct to the Vice-Chancellor, a confidential report on the applicant's character, academic and managerial ability in a properly sealed envelope marked "Post of University Librarian: Referee's Report" with the name of candidate at the top left-hand corner of the envelope.
    • Each application should be accompanied by 30 copies of the candidate's detailed Curriculum vue, duly signed, and dated by the candidate with 30 copies of credentials.
    • In addition, candidates are required to email the soft copy of the application and Curriculum Vitse and supporting documents compiled as only one attachment.
    • Please note that only Hand copies of properly submitted complete applications will be considered for assessment, the soft copy sent by email is analy
    • for reference and documentation and will not be used for assessing the candidates.

    Note: Shortlisted candidates will be required to make themselves available for an interview with the appearing Committee of Council at a date that will be duely and formally conveyed to such candidates in writing
