    Category Manager

    PURPOSE 

    A brief overview of the role 

    • The Category Manager is responsible for managing product categories, optimizing product assortment, and expanding the customer base and merchant network.
    • The role involves developing and implementing effective business development and sales strategies to enhance category performance and generate leads.

    KEY DUTIES 

    • Forecasting levels of demand for products and services to meet the business needs and keeping a constant check on stock levels
    • Conducting research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of best value, delivery schedules and quality
    • Liaising between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments and customers
    • Identifying potential suppliers, visiting existing suppliers, and building and maintaining good relationships with them
    • Negotiating and agreeing contracts and monitoring their progress, checking the quality of products /service provided
    • Follow up on suppliers’ /vendors payment and invoices to ensure the vendors payments are processed
    • Keeping contract files and using them as reference for the future Forecasting price trends and their impact on future-on-future buying activities. 
    • Make presentations about market analysis and possible growth trend 
    • Evaluating bids and making recommendations based on commercial and technical factors 
    • Ensuring suppliers are aware of company business objectives and buy policy.

    KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE (include technical knowledge): 

    • Strong product and category management knowledge.
    • Problem analysis and problem-solving.
    • Adequate knowledge of the supply chain and procurement functions.
    • Data collection and ordering.
    • Knowledge of MS Office Suite and other relevant computer applications.
    • Proficiency in Excel.
    • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Good presentation skills.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Effective planning and leadership skills.

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    Essential 

    • Excellent product and category management knowledge. 
    • HND/BSc in any field with 3 years of experience in the same or related role. 
    • Efficient use of MS Office Suite. 
    • Ability to work efficiently in a highly demanding environment. 
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
    • Strong conflict management skills. 
    • Strong problem-solving and resource management skills. 
    • Demonstrated success, preferably in e-commerce/ retail/ consumer electronics. 
    • Strong creative, strategic, analytical, organizational, and personal sales skills.
