    Class Teacher (English or Maths)

    Responsibilities

    • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
    • Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments.
    • Work with schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests in accordance with established procedures.
    • Take initiatives to build strong interest and knowledge for Mathematics, English, and other subjects.
    • Take responsibility for the progress of a class of primary-age pupils.
    • Organize the classroom and learning resources, and create displays to encourage a positive learning environment.
    • Plan, prepare, and present lessons catering to the needs of the whole ability range within the class toward Common Entrance to secondary school.
    • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation.
    • Maintain discipline.
    • Prepare and mark work to facilitate positive pupil development and guidance.
    • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
    • Meet requirements for assessing and recording pupils' development.
    • Provide feedback to parents and carers on pupils' progress at parents' evenings and other meetings.
    • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in delivering this specialist area.
    • Keep up to date with changes and developments in the curriculum structure versus pupils' needs.
    • Organize and participate in school events, outings, and activities that may occur at weekends or in the evening.
    • Liaise with colleagues and work flexibly, particularly to create a multiplier effect in the school.
    • Work with parents and management to maximize involvement and resource development for the school.
    • Observe and evaluate students' performance and development.
    • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
    • Provide appropriate feedback on work.

    Reporting Line: 

    • Teacher will report to the supervisor and by extension the Head of Academics (School Head).

    Report Writing:

    • The position requires periodic assessment of academic and non-academic areas of pupils, apart from termly class assessments and examinations.
    • The teacher must work long hours during term time, usually over 45 hours a week.
    • Marking and preparation are typically done at school and at home.
    • Teachers work on marking, planning, preparation, and classroom organization.
    • Parents' evenings, school concerts, clubs, after-school activities, and preparation for school inspections will require additional hours.

    Qualifications

    • University Degree such as B.Sc, B.Ed in Mathematics, Sciences & English, Engineering, Physics, Statistics  
    • Ages of Pupils to Be Taught: Ages 6-11 years

    Work Experience:

    • Years of experience in a classroom at the primary school level are essential for teaching primary pupils.
    • Familiarity with the primary curriculum.

    Skills:

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
    • Good organizational and time-management skills.
    • Energy, enthusiasm, stamina, patience, dedication, resilience, and self-discipline.
    • Initiative, leadership, supervisory skills, and teamwork abilities.
    • Imagination, creativity, and a sense of humor.
    • Good judgment and an analytical mind.
    • A satisfactory health record.
    • Additional skills such as IT, Music, Sports, Drama, etc., are welcome.
    • Ability and proven ability to report to work regularly and punctually.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
    • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
    • Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the school program.
    • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.

    What to Expect

    • The suitable teacher will usually be based in their own classrooms, though they may teach elsewhere in the school to cover staff shortages or because of their specialist subject area.
    • Resources vary between schools.
    • There may be occasional trips with pupils or staff development opportunities.
