    Country Lead, Nigeria

    POSITION SUMMARY: 

    • The Country Lead will provide vision, leadership, and direction to ensure the strategic, programmatic, technical, and financial integrity of the project in their country of focus. S/he will be responsible for the program leadership, management, and technical direction of staff and project activities in Nigeria.
    • S/he will serve as key liaison with GAVI, government, and local partners.
    • S/he will manage and supervise the personnel in Nigeria, including sub-contractors and sub grantees, and ensure that all program assistance is technically sound and appropriate.
    • S/he will coordinate program work planning, performance management, and strategic communication for Nigeria. S/he will report to the Project Director who will oversee the project across the four countries of implementation.

    PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    Operational Responsibilities

    •  Lead and supervise all aspects of program implementation/management, technical, financial, and reporting for the Nigeria program. 
    •  Oversee program administration and financial management of the Haiti program and ensure alignment with Project HOPE and donor guidelines, processes, and standards. 
    • Supervise team of personnel to implement Nigeria project.
    • Ensure project deliverables are met on time.
    • Ensure regular budget monitoring is conducted and program expenditures are on track.
    • Put in place financial and operational systems to ensure project is on track.
    • Lead development of project budget.

    Technical Responsibilities

    • Contribute to activity design and implementation.
    • Communicate technical material and project successes to donors, government stakeholders, and others.
    • Oversee work planning process and ensure activities are responsive to goals and objectives of the activity.
    • Support M&E teams to ensure project reporting structures are in place to track project deliverables. 

    Strategic Communication

    •  Represent Project HOPE before relevant government authorities, donors, and others. 
    •  Promote Project HOPE’s efforts to relevant stakeholders. 

    MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    • At least 8 years of demonstrated experience managing donor-funded projects (i.e. USAID, CDC, GAVI, Global Fund, etc). Previous Chief of Party, Project Director, Deputy Chief of Party, or senior management experience in immunization, EPI, HSS, and/or related field, preferably in Nigeria.  
    • Leadership skill in designing, managing, and implementing donor-supported programs and ability to manage programmatic and financial reporting requirements, including sub-grants management. 
    • Demonstrated experience managing consortiums and building capacity of local organizations. 
    • Experience hiring and supervising personnel.
    • Excellent diplomacy skills and ability to sustain professional relationships. 
    • Previous experience working in Nigeria, with understanding of local health system and solid relationships with government agencies.
    • Experience managing multi-country projects.

    • Demonstratable critical and creative thinking skills.

    • Typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level. 
    • Expect to travel fifty percent or more of the time.
    • Project HOPE employees work in the global health field and may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship”.
