About Company: Our client is an energy service company which provides Engineering Design & Construction, Power and Renewable Energy, Oilfield Supply and Services and Environmental & Laboratory Services in Lagos.

Job Summary: The Financial Accountant will monitor all financial data and prepare accurate statements for our company.  The Financial Accountant’s responsibilities will include budgeting, managing tax payments, ensure compliance with regulations & legal requirements, performing internal & external audits that offer financial stability.                                                                                                                                                                                     

Key Responsibilities:                                                                              

• To ensure timely preparation of monthly management accounts and financial information which provides a complete and accurate picture of the company’s financial position
• Oversee the execution of the company’s budgeting and budgetary control process to achieve the agreed corporate objectives.
• To ensure accuracy and integrity of the accounting records  
• To co-ordinate the analysis and synthesis of the company’s financial and non-financial information which provides a basis for sound business decisions by executive management    
• To protect the company’s interest by ensuring that relevant statutory and regulatory reports/returns regarding the company’s financial affairs are generated on a timely basis. e.g., statutory returns, including Tax, Pension & VAT returns
• To implement effective tax planning strategies for the company and ensure full compliance with relevant tax laws.
• Oversee the preparation of the company’s annual budget and monitor the implementation to minimize overruns and achieve the desired objectives  
• Supervise the implementation of budgetary mechanisms to proactively identify and manage budget and performance variances by the business sectors   
• Authorize expenditure and transactions in line with the company’s approved authority limit       
• Periodically review key company finance activity and performance reports and take appropriate action to ensure the company’s business objectives are achieved
• Liaise with internal and external auditors (where applicable) and deal with any financial irregularities as they arise
• Cashflow forecasting and reconciliation of actual performance against forecasts   
• Working closely with external auditors to prepare the statutory financial reports/year-end audit
• Preparing and reporting of key KPI’s for the business
• Track the company’s financial status and performance to identify areas for potential improvement
• Managing, reporting, and reconciling all intercompany costs
• Research and analyze financial reports and market trends   
• Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes
• Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company
• Perform month-end accounting activities such as reconciliations and journal entries.
• Coordinate with the Finance & Accounts to complete assigned accounting tasks within deadlines.     
• Review and recommend changes to existing accounting procedures.
• Development of appropriate financial controls and processes           
• Ongoing automation and continuous improvement as the business continues to scale.

Requirements

• Minimum of second class upper in accounting                                                           
• Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance related courses is an added advantage
• Relevant knowledge of local accounting rules, tax, IFRS
• 5 years relevant experience in financial management/ accounting
• Additional certification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CPA) is Compulsory         
• Member of Chartered Institute of Taxation (CITN) is an advantage
• Proven work experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role                           
• Excellent MS Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access)                           
• Advanced knowledge SAP FICO Module                                                                                 
• Relevant knowledge of local accounting rules and taxes, in-depth understanding of business bookkeeping procedures                        
• In-depth understanding of regulatory policies                                                
• Sound knowledge of accounting fundamental
• Excellent analytic thinking and problem-solving skills; ability to anticipate and independently resolve issues       
• Solid knowledge of accounting regulations, results-oriented and determined in resolving issues and achieving objectives
• Excellent math skills with an attention to detail and desire to probe further into data       
• Excellent interpersonal skills, flexible, well organized with lots of initiative, energy, and personal motivation
• Hands-on experience in preparing company accounts
• Confident oral presentation and communication skills to influence, persuade, negotiate, motivate, and agree on commitments with colleagues in a high-pressure environment
• Approachable and able to coach and assist colleagues with accounting problems/issues  
• Numerate and articulate in handling statistics and interpreting information for communication to all levels within the business
• Ability to stick to time constraints

Benefits
Base Pay is NGN 450,000:00 monthly
