    Head of Department - Economics

    Overall Function

    • As the Head of Department for Economics at Miva Open University, you will play a vital role in leading and managing the Economics department.
    • You will be responsible for providing strategic direction, overseeing academic programs, and fostering a dynamic learning environment.
    • The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of Economics education, and a passion for delivering high-quality online education.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement a clear vision and strategic plan for the Economics Department in alignment with the university's overall goals and objectives.
    • Provide strong leadership to faculty and staff, fostering a culture of academic excellence, innovation, and collaboration.
    • Set departmental goals and objectives, monitor progress, and make adjustments as needed.
    • Ensure the development and delivery of high-quality, up-to-date, and relevant economics programs that meet the needs of students and industry.
    • Oversee curriculum design, review, and enhancement processes to maintain program quality and alignment with accreditation standards.
    • Recruit, retain, and develop a team of qualified and dedicated economics faculty members.
    • Provide leadership and support to faculty in curriculum delivery, instructional methodologies, and research activities
    • Ensure the provision of effective academic support services to students, including advising, mentoring, and career guidance.
    • Promote student engagement and success through the development of co-curricular activities, internships, and partnerships with external stakeholders.
    • Foster collaborations and partnerships with other academic departments, institutions, industry professionals, and relevant organizations.
    • Engage with external stakeholders to identify and respond to emerging trends and opportunities in the field of economics.
    • Represent the department at university-level meetings, conferences, and events, advocating for the department's interests and contributions.

    Qualifications and Skills

    • A Ph.D in Economics or a related field.
    • University teaching experience, with a minimum rank of Senior Lecturer.
    • Proven experience in a leadership role within an academic institution, preferably in an online distance learning environment.
    • Strong knowledge and expertise in Economics education, including curriculum development and instructional methodologies.
    • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and mentor faculty members, promoting excellence in teaching and research.
    • Familiarity with online learning platforms, instructional technologies, and learning management systems.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
    • A passion for online education and a commitment to providing high-quality learning experiences for students.
    • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

    Remuneration
    N1,200,000 - N1,500,000 Net Monthly, with benefits.
