    Head of School

    Vacancy:

    Head of School

    Location: Magodo, Lagos

     Summary:

    Oversee preschool; primary and secondary schools including boarding house

    Reports to:

    The Chairman

    Supervises:

    1.     Principal, preschool & primary school;

    2.     Vice principal, secondary school

    3.     All academic and administrative staff

    GENERAL DUTIES: 

    ·         All aspects of the day-to-day management and operation of the schools, the administration and supervision of systems and routines to ensure the efficient operation of the schools.

    • Delegation of duties to the principal of the preschool & primary school and the vice-principal secondary school, in a manner that establishes and develops effective partnership in order to provide effective supervision and support in the carrying out of this role.
    • Ensuring that all operations of the schools reflect the whole school’s ethos, philosophy and core values and that the school’s mission is fully implemented.
    • Provision of professional leadership for the schools, ensuring the highest possible quality of education for students. 
    • Monitoring of the school curriculum with particular focus on the effective implementation of the IGCSE program, the WASC program and all other program on offer by the schools.
    • Ensuring the production and provision of academic timetables which meet the needs of the students, taking cognizance of staff strengths and skills in alignment with the timetables in the other sections of the school.
    • The promotion of a positive and professional learning culture across all sections of the school.
    • Maintaining within the school a spirit conducive to prayer and study in addition to an atmosphere of piety, obedience and charity throughout the school day.
    • The implementation of all the policies of the school in order to assure a school environment that is focused on working collaboratively towards high standard of spiritual and academic achievement.
    • The provision and supervision of safe recreation and games activities for the students. 
    • Supervision of regular school assemblies.
    • Leading staff in raising the profile of the school within the immediate community of Lagos and the entire Nigerian society at large.
    • Ensuring that all school publications, letters, reports etc., meet the expected high standard that fits the image of the school.
    • Build and sustain a positive communication and relationship with home through the school’s newsletters and the various activities of the school.
    • Ensuring that parents’ interest and participation in the school is encouraged and sustained.
    • Maintaining a visible, approachable and welcoming stance for parents and other stakeholders of the school.

    STUDENTS:

    • The management of admissions processes in conjunction with the admissions office.
    • Development and fostering of positive relationships with students and other stakeholders of the school.
    • The responsibility for establishing and maintaining of high moral and disciplinary standards.
    • The responsibility for ensuring the health and safety of students, staff and visitors to the school.
    • The supervision of the implementation of a robust enrichment curriculum that fulfils the aims and goals of the school and fulfils the needs of the students.
    • Monitoring of the schools instructional, study and assessment programs in conjunction with the principal and vice-principal and other senior staff members.
    • The supervision of student behavior to ensure that the behavior adheres to the outstanding level stated in the school’s behavior management policy.
    • Monitoring the curriculum to prepare students for graduation and ensuring that the learning environment within the school is aligned with the requirements for high achievements and graduation.
    • The establishment and maintenance of academic programs that offer each student the necessary foundation, guidance and support for success.
    • Ensuring that students abide by school guidelines and code of conduct.
    • The monitoring and supervising of regular reporting and feedback to parents.
    • Maintaining open and regular communication with parents.

    PASTORAL/BOARDING HOUSE:

    • The monitoring of a caring, happy, safe and structured residential environment and programs for students and staff under the supervision of the Head of Boarding or Boarding House Supervisor.
    • The responsibility for the school’s overall pastoral program.
    • The demonstration of a strong, confident, hands-on operational style where duties are discharged efficiently in an atmosphere of consultation and collaboration, with due regard for the cultural complexities of the student population within the framework of international education.
    • The establishment of a robust sports and recreation program for the students.

    STAFF:

    • Provision of an effective orientation and induction program for new staff and ensuring the procedures for staff appraisal and performance management are carried out according to the policy of the school.
    • Provision of professional and personal support and direction to staff in order to optimize the effective carrying out of their duties.
    • Provision of timely information in matters pertaining to staff movement and deployment and contribution to the recruitment procedures for staff as required.
    • Planning and recommending of appropriate professional development programs for staff.
    • Maintaining open and regular communication with staff.
    • Maintaining open and regular communication to keep the Chairman and Director well informed about school matters.

    TEACHING DUTIES:

    • You may be required to undertake teaching responsibilities from time to time as dictated by demand and circumstances at the school.

    FINANCE:

    • Readiness to work hand-in-hand with finance to make useful contributions to the planning of the school budget and school finance.

    PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:

    • Presenting to the Chairman and Director appropriate opportunities for your personal professional development that will enhance your work and performance as Head of School.

    Requirements

    • Min of B.Sc./MA, M.Sc.
    • Min of 15+ years
    • Professional certification is an added advantage
