    Igbo Language Art & Culture Teacher

    Job Description

    • We seek a qualified and experienced Igbo Language, Art, and Culture Teacher to join our team.
    • The successful candidate is responsible for instructing and guiding students in learningthe Igbo language, its literary traditions, and the cultural practices and artistic expressions of the Igbo people.
    • He/She willdevelop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans covering varioustopics, including Igbo grammar, literature, history, music, dance, and traditional crafts, to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Igbo heritage among students.

    Responsibilities

    • Using various instructional methods and resources, develop and implement engaging and age-appropriate lesson plans that cover the core elements of the Igbo language, including phonology, morphology, syntax, and vocabulary.
    • Teach and guide students inanalyzingand interpreting Igbo literary works, such as folktales, proverbs, poetry, and drama, and encourage them to engage in creative writing and storytelling.
    • Introduce students to the rich cultural traditions of the Igbo people, including music, dance, visual arts, and crafts, and facilitate hands-on activities and performances to promote cultural awareness and appreciation.
    • Assess students' progress in language proficiency, cultural knowledge, and creative expression, and provide regular feedback to help them improve.
    • Maintain detailed records of student performance, attendance, and disciplinary issues.
    • Stay updated with the latest developments in Igbo language studies, literature, and cultural research.
    • Contribute to the overall cultural enrichment of the school community, including organizing and hosting Igbo-themed events, workshops, and cultural exchange.

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor's degree in Education/Igbo Language, African Studies, or a related field.
    • Teaching certification.
    • Minimum 2-3 years of experience teaching Igbo language, literature, or cultural studies at the secondary level.
    • Demonstrated success in creating and implementing effective lesson plans and assessments.

    Skills:

    • Fluency in the Igbo language, with a deep understanding of its grammar, phonology, and vocabulary.
    • Extensive knowledge of Igbo literature, history, and cultural traditions, including visual arts, music, dance, and crafts.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage students and facilitate informed discussions.
    • Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities to help students understand and evaluate complex cultural and literary concepts.
    • Creativity and problem-solving skills to develop innovative lesson plans and activities.
    • Proficient use of relevant educational resources, technology, and traditional Igbo art forms and materials.
    • Cater to the students' diverse learning needs and cultural backgrounds through patienceand adaptability.

    Other Requirements:

    • Passion for teaching and a strong personal commitment to the preservation and promotion of Igbo language, art, and culture.
    • Ability to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment that encourages respectful dialogue, cultural exchange, and creative expression.
    • Willingness to stay updated with the latest trends and developments in Igbo language studies and cultural research.
    • Strong collaboration and teamwork skills to work effectively with other faculty members.
    • Commitment to the school's mission and values, andpromoting cultural diversity and intercultural understanding among students.

    Additional Information:

    • The ideal candidate will be fluent in the Igbo language and have a strong understanding of Igbo culture and customs.
    • The candidate should be willing to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with diverse students and staff.
    • The position is full-time and requires a commitment to teaching for at least two years.
