• We seek an experienced Legal Manager to deliver top-notch legal advisory and compliance support to our operating companies.
• Your role involves mitigating risks, preventing litigation, and reducing legal costs while ensuring adherence to laws and regulations.
• With a strong background in commercial law, you'll draft and review contracts, support regulatory compliance, and collaborate with teams across operations, finance, HR, tax, strategy, and procurement. Bring your expertise and drive our commercial success!

Responsibilities

• Draft & Negotiate: Handle medium to high-risk transaction agreements, including acquisition, funding, oil & gas, power sector, and construction agreements.
• Legal Research: Stay current with laws, regulations, and industry standards, offering proactive guidance on new and emerging legislation.
• Policy Development: Review and enhance company policies to align with legal requirements and industry best practices.
• Compliance Support: Advise internal teams on compliance, risk assessments, and legal implications of business decisions.
• Risk Management: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate legal risks and develop effective strategies.
• External Collaboration: Work closely with external legal counsel and regulatory authorities as needed.
• Litigation Support: Assist with litigation and oversee external legal counsel.
• Transactional Leadership: Lead or support transactions and assignments as requested.
• Training: Conduct sessions to educate employees on pertinent legal issues.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the organization in regulatory panels.
• Additional Support: Assist with various tasks and projects as needed.

Knowledge/Skills 

• Strong knowledge of Nigerian laws and regulations, corporate commercial law as well as regulatory compliance. .
• Strong knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry standards related to the Energy Sector (oil & gas and power), construction & infrastructure. 
• Excellent drafting and negotiation skills. 
• Strong IT Skills, including proficiency with Excel, MS Word, and PowerPoint. 
• Ability to work as part of a team and with both internal and external stakeholders with diverse cultural backgrounds. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to apply commercial solutions to legal problems 
• Experience in working with regulators.

Minimum Qualification/Experience 

• Law degree from a commonwealth jurisdiction. 
• Bachelor of Law or relevant law degree from an accredited law school and admission to the Nigerian Bar. 
• At least 10 years post call experience, a majority of which must be core Oil and Gas experience in a reputable law firm or commercial Oil and Gas environment. 
• Geographical mobility within and outside Nigeria where necessary.
