    Management Accountant

    About the job

    • The Accounts Department tracks how money moves in and out of the company.
    • The roles and responsibilities of the department include accounts receivable and payable, payroll administration in conjunction with the HR Department, tax administration, financial planning/policy formulation, and financial reporting. The Management Accountant superintends over all these.

     Job Description

    • Supervise the activities of the Accounts Department which has as its components the following units: Accounts (Receivables & Payables), Cash, Billing, and Statutory Returns. 
    • Ensure that transactions are properly captured on both the medical services software (EMR) and the accounting package in use. 
    • Prepare monthly management accounts (income statements, balance sheet, and other financial documents) for Executive Management use.
    • Prepare final accounts and all necessary schedules for the auditors’ annual audit exercise.
    • Liaise with external bodies including but not limited to: Banks, External Auditors, Tax Consultants, and Tax Authorities (Federal and State). 
    • Ensure proper filing of periodic returns with statutory bodies.
    • Ensure account receivables are followed up for prompt collection and where there are issues around any balance, ensure such issues are followed up and resolved with the concerned client (HMO, Corporates, Private Patients, etc.) 
    • Monitor the age analysis of account receivables. 
    • Maintain monthly payment of staff payroll on schedule, in conjunction with HR Dept. 
    • Support with audits within the organization as appropriate.
    • Evaluate and monitor financial information systems and recommend improvements as necessary.
    • Communicate and interpret financial data to non-financial managers
    • Supervise the preparation of departmental annual budgets and consolidate such budgets into the annual budget of the organization. 
    • Monitor the implementation of the annual budget and produce budget reports.
    • Prepare the Fixed Asset Schedule, and ensure the verification and tagging of each asset on the Fixed Asset Register.
    • Ensure the charging of end-of-year reduction in value (depreciation, amortization, depletion) on each asset on the fixed asset register.
    • Inventory Management – liaise with the Internal Audit Unit and Store to:
      • Ensure all stock-in and stock-out are well documented through monthly inventory taking. 
      • Ensure the Inventory Bin Card (purchase, sales, and balance) matches the system-generated report. o 
      • Reconcile with the general ledger and generate inventory reports
    • Initiate and actively participate in quality improvement measures on the job
    • Other functions as may be assigned by Executive Management

    Qualifications Requirements

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree (or its equivalent) in Accounting, with strong skills in reporting. 
    • Membership/Certification of at least one relevant professional association
    • Experience in the health sector with at least two years in an accounting supervisory role.

    • Timely filing of statutory returns
    • Compliance with budgets and budget control
    • Integrity of the Assets Register
    • Timely processing of Payroll
    • Quality improvement measures introduced
