    Program Officer Food Security and Livelihood

    Job Summary     

    The program Officer Food Security and Livelihood will be responsible for designing, implementing, and monitoring activities aimed at improving livelihood opportunities and food security for beneficiaries in targeted communities of Sokoto State

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement comprehensive livelihood and food security strategies that integrate climate-friendly farming practices and organic agriculture in the selected communities and LGAs under the project.
    • Conduct assessments to identify livelihood challenges, food insecurity issues, and environmental concerns, and design tailored interventions to address them effectively.
    • Provide technical assistance, training, and capacity building to farmers, cooperatives, and community groups to adopt sustainable agricultural practices and improve crop yields.
    • Collaborate with government agencies, agricultural experts, environmental organizations, and community leaders to promote the use of climate-friendly farming products and organic inputs for sustainable agriculture.
    • Facilitate access to resources, such as seeds, fertilizers, and tools, that support climate-resilient farming and organic agriculture practices.
    • Monitor and evaluate the impact of livelihood and food security interventions, collecting data on agricultural productivity, income generation, and food access, and reporting findings.
    • Establish and maintain partnerships with local markets, buyers, and value chain actors to create market linkages for farmers and promote income generation opportunities.
    • Advocate for policies and practices that support sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, and food security at the local and regional levels.
    • Conduct training sessions and workshops on climate-smart agriculture, organic farming, and sustainable land management practices for farmers and community members.
    • Ensure gender mainstreaming and inclusivity in all livelihood and food security activities, empowering women farmers and marginalized groups to actively participate in agricultural development initiatives.

    Education Qualification: 

    • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Agro-Economy, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Anthropology, Agric-Business, Business Administration and Management and other FSL related qualifications;
    • Minimum 2 years work experience in humanitarian contexts, with at least 2 years in conflict/insecure contexts;
    • He/she must have experience in food security and livelihood programming, Nutrition and community engagement;
    • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions like long distance walking to screening sites;
    • Capacity to supervise and coach;
    • Ability to work in an environment where there are physical discomforts associated with change in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust or dirt;
    • Professional, motivated, open, creative, mature, responsible, flexible and, culturally sensitive;
    • Excellent team, budget and project management and representation competencies;
    • Microsoft Office Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word);
    • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited;
    • Fluency in English and Hausa;
    • Commitment to ACF mission, values and policy;
    • Resident of community area (LGA) of work, networks within community;
    • Previous NGO experience managing mobilization in different FSL interventions (i.e.  FSL, cash transfers, IGA, Agriculture etc);
    • Previous experience with ACF;
    • Report writing skills.
