    Programme Officer - Thought Leadership (NGO)

    JOB OVERVIEW

    To support the Thought Leadership Team, the programme Officer will need to:

    • Understand the African continent ecosystem 
    • Leverage challenges to create new ways of thinking and working 
    • Be hands-on in designing and delivering ideas to scale, standard, and timeline.  
    • Understand the importance of the twin roles of communication and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL), and factor these into the creation process for every output
    • Understand Gender Equity and Social Inclusion (GESI)and the link to sustainable change that transforms the lives of citizens and how to mainstream that into the decision-making and design process
    • Be able to raise funds 
    • Be able to work unsupervised 

    The Program Officer will work directly with the team lead of the Thought Leadership Initiative and programme area leads as may be defined and assigned. 

    JOB PURPOSE

    • Actively observe, report on and deliver the activities of the Thought Leadership Initiative towards achieving the defined strategic objectives
    • Supervise, allocate and apply all resource(s)  (technological, human and material) across all Thought Leadership as approved 
    • Act in proxy role as a point of contact and representative for THOUGHT LEADERSHIP related matters as may be assigned
    • Prepare and disseminate report regularly as may be agreed 
    • Coordinate network resources and ensure a symbiotic working relationship always
    • Deliver other programme-related tasks as may be assigned  

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES /AREAS
     

    REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

    • Study all concept notes and be the custodian of the work plan of the THOUGHT LEADERSHIP initiative and team 
    • Prepare, store, and disseminate any work document as directed by the Team Lead.
    • Create and track a work plan to monitor THOUGHT LEADERSHIP’s work progress 
    • Implement a firm Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) plan 
    • Support all annual planned events. Tasks include but are not limited to:
    • Event program agenda development
    • Inviting and scheduling guest speakers and moderators
    • Creating a time budget
    • Prepare and also review funding proposal 
    • Programme communication, such as sending post-event appreciation notes.
    • Work closely with THOUGHT LEADERSHIP program area leads
    • Schedule and plan all communications around Thought Leadership events.
    • Develop reports such as:
    • Weekly meeting reports
    • Quarterly program reports
    • Annual Thought Leadership report
    • Project reports 

    Communiques 

    • Other tasks as may be assigned by the Team Lead

    WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE IN THIS ROLE 

    If the Programme officer is the right fit: 

    • The THOUGHT LEADERSHIP team would be coordinated and more seamlessly achieve set goals in record time 
    • All THOUGHT LEADERSHIP communication tasks will be responded to and resolved within the stipulated time
    • All events are delivered to an audience satisfaction rate of 90%
    • Partnerships and collaborations with internal stakeholders and departments such as the Experience Lead, Alum Association, Tech Support, and Faculty Liaison will be effective and drive the achievement of core objectives 
    • Reports will be timely and qualitative  
    • There will be a happy team receiving the right technical and team support 

    Experience:

    • B.Sc. or its equivalent from a recognised tertiary Institution. M.Sc. will be an added advantage
    • Relevant professional certifications in programme management and fundraising will be an added advantage.
    • Minimum of one year of local or international work experience in the social or learning and development sectors.
    • Administrative experience in tertiary education/learning and/or development.
    • Great interpersonal and communication skills 
    • Proficiency in use of ICT tools and communication techniques 
    • Ability to work unsupervised with respect for quality delivery to scale and timeline.
    • Local language proficiency
