    Senior In-House Legal Counsel

    Position Overview:

    • The Senior In-House Legal Counsel will provide expert legal advice to an educational institution in Lagos, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while protecting the institution’s interests. This role requires extensive experience in educational law, risk management, and governance.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Legal Advisory: Provide strategic legal advice on employment law, student rights, regulatory compliance, and contracts.
    • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with Nigerian laws, develop risk management strategies, and mitigate legal risks.
    • Contract Management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts to protect the institution’s interests and ensure legal compliance.
    • Litigation Management: Handle legal disputes and litigation, working with external counsel when necessary.
    • Policy Development: Develop and update policies, and provide training on legal issues.
    • Governance: Advise the Board of Trustees on legal matters and ensure governance practices comply with regulations.
    • Education & Training: Conduct training on compliance matters and provide legal guidance to staff.
    • Legal Research: Stay updated on legal developments and provide analysis to support decision-making.

    Qualifications:

    • Law degree from an accredited institution; licensed to practice in Nigeria.
    • Minimum 6 years of legal experience in a corporate setting.
    • Strong knowledge of Nigerian regulations affecting educational institutions.
    • Experience in contract negotiation, risk management, and legal compliance.
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse stakeholders.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience in an educational environment and advising a Board of Trustees.
