    Sub-Editor

    Overview:

    • As a sub-editor, you will work to ensure the quality, accuracy, clarity, and consistency of the reports. You will also painstakingly review, rewrite, and refine the reports to align with the editorial standards and house style guidelines. You will work closely with writers, editors, and other team members.
    • The ideal candidate will possess strong editorial skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a newsroom that is focused on accountability reporting.

    Qualifications & Skills:

    • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
    • Proven experience as a sub-editor or in a similar role, preferably in a publishing, media, or content creation environment.
    • Excellent command of the English language.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify errors or inconsistencies in written content.
    • Familiarity with editing tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Adobe Acrobat).
    • Experience working with long form reports and investigative reporting is an added advantage.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
    • Flexibility to adapt to evolving editorial standards, project requirements, and industry trends.
    • Experience with content management systems (CMS) and publishing platforms.
    • Understanding of copyright laws, fair use guidelines, and ethical considerations in publishing.
    • Ability to provide clear and constructive feedback to writers and contribute to a positive team culture.

    Some of the responsibilities :

    • Proofreading and Editing: You will review and edit written content for accuracy, grammar, punctuation, spelling, and clarity, as well as to improve readability, coherence, and adherence to style guidelines.
    • Headline, Subheading, summary, blurb, caption creation: Create engaging and informative headlines, subheadings, and captions that accurately reflect the content and attract readers’ attention.
    • Fact-checking as quality control: Verify the accuracy of factual information, statistics, and references cited within the content.
    • Style Consistency: Ensure consistency in style, tone, and voice across all content pieces to adhere to editorial guidelines and the house style.
    • Collaboration: Work closely with writers, editors, and other team members to refine content and address feedback.
    • Deadline Management: Ability to Manage multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines while adapting to changing priorities and project requirements.
    • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough quality checks to identify and correct errors or inconsistencies in content. Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail throughout the editing process.
