    Assistant Nursery Manager (Junior Agronomist)

    Job Description

    • Support the achievement of plantation Fresh Fruit Bunchtargets within the agreed budget.
    • Assist the delivery replanting programme according to best practice international standards.
    • Maintain the plantation at the best upkeep level.
    • Organize and supervise agricultural workforce to improve outturn and workers productivity.
    • Contribute to improve oil extraction rate (OER) by delivering 100% ripe bunches to the mill and arranging for all lose fruit to be delivered within 24 hours of harvest.
    • Support the maximization yields and average bunch weight through appropriate fertilizer application.
    • Respect first in first out management of all plantation stores items.
    • Assist with the installation and management of nurseries.
    • Support the execution the planting programme to allow at least 2 months rainfall for seedlings before the dry season starts.
    • Assist in the training and upskilling of plantations managers and divisional managers to best management practices of oil palm plantation developing in country skills and capability.
    • Support and assist Agric Director and Edo State Government teams in the implementation of all environmental and health and safety initiatives.
    • Assist with reporting against targets and KPIs to relevant authorities to assess and improve business performance.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of second-class upper division in Agronomy or Agricultural -Engineering or equivalent subject.
    • Relevant professional experience in a similar role and environment.
    • Knowledge and experience of agricultural operations, imperatively in the plantation sector, in Africa.

    Nursery Batch Supervisor

    Job Description
    Actively manage the pre-and main nurseries team in achieving their targets which are summarized here below:

    • Support the achievement of plantation targets within the agreed budget.
    • Deliver the agreed number of plantlets in time and quality for the budgeted planting programme according to best practice international standards, with the lowest possible mortality rate, and the highest possible growth rate. Maintain the pre and main nurseries at the best quality level, through best-in-class fertilization, pest and diseases control, and irrigation.
    • Organize and supervise nurseries workforce, including Batch Managers and Irrigation Supervisor, to improve outturn and workers productivity.
    • Respect first in first out management of all plantation stores items.
    • Control the budget allocated for each operation and ensure expenses are within budget.
    • Assist in the training and upskilling of all nursery’s workforce to best management practices.
    • Support and assist Agricultural Director and ESG teams in the implementation of all environmental and health and safety initiatives.
    • Batches responsibility
    • Planted seeds: 2 x 100,000 (representing a targeted 1,000 hectares of field planting)
    • Total mortality rate < 15%
    • Direct reports: 25-30.

    Requirements

    • Possess a Bachelor's Degree in relevant fields.
    • Relevant 5 - 10 years professional experience in a similar role and environment.
    • Prior experience in oil palm nurseries is essential.
    • Knowledge and experience of agricultural operations, imperatively in the plantation sector, in Africa.
    • Management/ supervisory skills and experience of managing agricultural teams an advantage.
    • English language essential.
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in cross cultural environment.
    • Good IT skills.
    • Knowledge of local languages an advantage.

    Head of Security

    Job Description

    • Support the achievement of company operational targets with the strict minimum number of security incidents.
    • Organize and supervise the teams of Security Guards, with the assistance of his Security Supervisors, in order to ensure a peaceful operation at all times on the Estates.
    • Maintain, in cooperation with the Workshop Manager, a fleet of vehicles commensurate to the needs of the task, and issue documented recommendations with regards to additional or different equipment requirements.
    • Keeps a constant working relationship with local law enforcement agencies (Police, Mobile Police , Army, DSS) to get their full support if the need arises.
    • Keep an updated planning of all Security activities, including trainings, patrols, staff hires and layoffs, to keep the Security Department optimally dimensioned with the Company operations.
    • Report regularly to the Managing Director, Agric Director, Technical Director and all other Heads of Departments about past, ongoing and planned activities, and flag all existing or potential issues, with proposed solutions. Support and assist Agric Director and ESG teams in the implementation of all environmental and health and safety initiatives
    • Strictly abide to the highest standards in Security Management, in full compliance with:
      • IFC Performance Standards 4 guidelines:
      • Handbook on the Use of Security Forces in Private Sector Projects
      • Risk Assessments
      • Security Management Plans
      • Contracting with Private Security
      • Engaging with Public Security Forces
      • Assist with reporting against targets and KPIs to the Managing Director to assess and improve business performance.

    Requirements

    • Relevant professional experience in a similar role and environment; Past experience in law enforcement agencies is an advantage
    • Good knowledge and experience (min 5 years) about security operations in a large scale agro-industrial projects in West Africa
    • Management/ supervisory skills and experience of managing security teams is essential
    • English language essential. Knowledge of local languages an advantage
    • Results focussed with the resilience to deliver in a challenging environment
    • Ability to withstand extreme pressure / high intensity situations calmly, whilst always keeping self-control and restrain
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in cross cultural environment
    • Very strong team leadership skills, and utmost sense of integrity and human respect.
    • Basic IT skills.

    Workshop Manager

    Job Description

    • Organize all Mechanical Workshop Activities
    • Maintain a team of properly trained mechanics, commensurate to the needs of the operations; recommend new hires and layoffs when required.
    • Recommend and monitor (in coordination with the Stores Manager) a stock of critical spare parts for maintenances and repairs of the heavy and light duty equipment of the Company.
    • Organize and plan, in coordination with all Departments, preventive maintenance of all thermic engines, machinery and equipment, including Gensets.
    • Organize and plan in advance trainings for tractor drivers and heavy-duty equipment operators
    • Report regularly on activities, and issue strategic recommendations to the Technical Director and the Managing Director with regards to adequacy of equipment, training needs and any other relevant aspect.

    Requirements

    • B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field (minimum of second class upper division)
    • Excellent knowledge in the field of Technical Management (minimum training level Technical Engineer).
    • Significant experience (at least 5 years) within mechanical workshop.
