    Medical Doctor

    Main Purpose

    • Provide outpatient and/or inpatient medical care to patients/beneficiaries according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, MSF protocols, values and universal hygiene standards to improve the pa-tients / beneficiaries' health conditions.

    Job Description

    • Coordinating, assessing and supervising the proper functioning of the medical activities (HIV, TB STIs, SGBV, etc.), according to MSF protocols, standards and procedures and through the correct compilation and analysis of medical data regarding patients’ health conditions.
    • Participating in the definition of annual planning and budget for the project and in the follow up of the programs / project. Supervising and ensuring that medical activities objectives under his/her responsibility are achieved, reporting to the technical referent any problem arising in the service
    • Checking all administrative procedures related to patients’ follow-up (individual card filling, registers, paper exit, discharge, transfers ...) are carried out correctly and according to MSF procedures.
    • Ensuring an efficient pharmacy management and monitoring the rational use of them. In coordination with the project biomedical service supervising the appropriate use of medical devices and anticipating future needs. Preparing the medical orders needed to implement the medical activities under his/her responsibility, and identifying and reporting to the line manager, non-medical support needs (material, infrastructure, transport, etc.)
    • Coordinating and monitoring the daily working plan of the team under his/her responsibility (absent personnel, vacations, tracking leaves ...). Participating in shifts and replaces a doctor, if necessary
    • Planning and supervising, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to improve staff capabilities and to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
    • Participating in the monthly reports according to guidelines (i.e. SitReps, medical statistical reports, etc.)
    • Ensures that newly recruited Medical Doctors are inducted into the team with provision of proper orientation on various tasks needed to empower their work in the project.
    • Support in collaboration with other Managers and Activity managers in the induction of other medical and paramedical staff according to the need.
    • Ensures that every Medical Doctor in the project under his/her supervision has a well-defined objective set and Bilan review follow-up for every Bilan Cycle.
    • Plan and follow-up the routine implementation of Continuous Medical Education in the project and ensure continuous participation of all medical staff to promote the technical skill within the medical team.
    • Ensure the planning and conduct of regular mortality analysis in participation of the medical team in the project and adapt various outlined recommendation to the medical activities to ensure a quality care provision to the patients.
    • Ensure the availability of updated medical protocol to the medical team and follow-up with medical/pharmacy prescription in the project in line with MSF protocol.
    • Participate actively in various committee meetings in the project (IPC, Blood transfusion; project management, etc) and ensure that medical recommendations made by the committees are effectively carried out by the medical team.
    • Perform regular medical file audits in collaboration with the Pharma and Nursing Teams to ensure that medical standards are maintained within the team.
    • Participate and if possible, lead the investigation of medical errors in collaboration with the Nursing Team and profer appropriate mitigation measures.
    • Ensure that staff Health provision is offered to all MSF staff in line with the Staff Health Policy.
    • In collaboration with other managers promote good health practices within the project in line with MSF recommendation.
    • Knowledge of other partners and their activities for purpose of appropriate referral.
    • Participate in the investigation of epidemic prone diseases and alerts in the context around the project site.
    • Actively participate in the weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, etc. sitreps and in collaboration with the Data Team, ensure the quality of medically generated data in the project.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Medical doctor or paramedical degree. Desirable specialization or training in Tropical Medicine or related studies (for OCB OCBA, this is essential too)

    Experience:

    • 2 years’ experience minimum as a Medical Doctor/General practitioner in clinical work (consultations, admissions, ward rounds, lab tests request and results interpretation). Desirable in tropical medicine, experience in pediatrics (Triage, Resuscitation, ICU, IPD, SAM, Infectious Diseases).

    Languages:

    • Fluent English (oral and written English), Hausa, Kanuri are Essential

    Knowledge:

    • Essential computer literacy (word, excel)

    Nurse

    Main Purpose

    • Assisting in the nursing activities with hospitalised patients, according to nurses and doctors’ prescription, universal hygiene standards and MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients.

    Job Description

    • Knowing, promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting medical secrets and confidentiality at all times.
    • Organizing and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and assisting during consultations, daily rounds and other medical procedures. Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when necessary.
    • Identifying Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can receive the necessary treatment.
    • Knowing and is aware of the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit
    • Ensuring patients are properly received and installed and that those with lack of autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements and comfort.
    • For ER and OPD nurse, ensuring triage of patients in waiting areas, wards or during emergencies, detecting the priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and referring them to the doctor when necessary
    • Sending material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization
    • Carrying out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e., assessment of the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any emergency situation or deterioration
    • Carrying and supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any problematic situations and cases that may arise.
    • Participation in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.
    • Participating in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards without prior authorisation, etc.)
    • Perform cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Fol-lowing the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of malfunctioning.
    • Supervising and training nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence to all appropriate protocols and procedures
    • Prepares and serves milks to patients following the rules on dilution and hygiene, ensures care takers give milk to patients with the help of staffs in the unit.
    • Participates in the medical tour with the doctor and the nurse of his unit.
    • The nurse aid shloud maintain a good handover and documentations of all procedures performed during his shift including registration of new admissions and discharged patients files and any other checklist available in his/her unit.
    • Working in collaboration with the different actors and compliance with MSF protocols.
    • Provides advice to patients in order to maintain good hygiene in conjunction with the nurse / lay counselor AND , if necessary, provide assistance.
    • Maintain flexibility while at work and respect hirachy.

    The specificity of Gwange Pediatric hospital:

    • The Nurse is likely to work day / night.
    • Nurses can work in different units (E.R, ICU, Orange, Yellow, Insolation, and Outreach).

    Under the supervision of the department supervisor the nurse adheres to the following:

    • The nurse in triage is responsible for the triage of all patients coming to Gwange MSF hospital respecting admission criteria, actively response to emergency as parioty and maintains high standard precautions by managing all isolation cases as per protocol.
    • He/she quickly identify all green patients and send to MOH by ensuring  good communication with care takers to avoid misunderstanding and maintains  good  patient floor (circuit) to allow good patient care
    • The nurse should always be organize at all time during his/her shift by ensuring all material needed for patient care are available, communicates to his supervisor any missing materials and  Ensures the daily cleaning and organization of the care trolley of his unit.
    • The nurse in charge of the unite follows all biomedical equipment’s in the unite to ensure that daily maintenance are completed by the Nurse Assistant and reports to the supervisor any dysfunction noticed and maintains up to date stock of consumables
    • The Nurse on daily basis attends the medical round with the Doctor of his unit and In his area of competence, implement the medical treatment provided in the unit according to the pathologies diagnosed, identify potential contraindications to certain medicines and ensure that the doses to patients are respected (age, weight and other particularities) in order to ensure therapeutic success
    • He/she participate with the supervisors in pharmacy inventories, meetings training of nurse, nurse assistants and orientation of new colleagues.
    • He/she Works in collaboration with the assistant nurse and is responsible for the supervision of nurse assistants work and patients in his/her unit using the tools at his/her disposal.
    • The nurse should maintain a good handover and documentations of all procedures performed during his shift including registration of new admissions and discharged patients files and any other checklist available in his/ her unit.
    • The nurse at all time should be present at duty station except when call for help in another unite and should maintain good collaboration  and communication with other team members 
    • In all areas of his activity, he can make proposals for improvement or adaptation to the supervisor of his unit.
    • Working in collaboration with the different actors and compliance with MSF protocols.
    • The nurse is committed to respect the free consultations and care. He respects deontology and confidentiality.

    In addition, his manager may ask him to perform additional tasks if necessary:

    • Detects cases of severe acute malnutrition and, if necessary, organizes with the Doctor and the supervisor the referral of the patient to an adapted structure.
    • Knows / carries out the Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE), i.e. maintaining contact with all patients, providing them with information about their health status and answering their medical questions.
    • Maintain flexibility while at work and respect hirakey.

    Hygiene:

    • Strictly apply the rules of hygiene in accordance with the standards in place in all activities.
    • Respects hygiene rules: hand washing, waste management, compulsory work uniform etc.
    • Provides advice to patients in order to maintain good hygiene in conjunction with the nurse assistant / lay counselor.

    Information - Education - Communication:

    • To educate hospital patients about vaccination.
    • Routinely checks the child's immunization status.
    • Provides lifestyle advice to Caregivers.

    Requirements
    Education:

    • Essential recognized Nurse Degree / Diploma
    • Desirable Bachelor’s in Science of Nursing.

    Experience:

    • Desirable 2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGO’s
    • Demonstrable experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.

    Languages:

    • Fluent English (oral and written English), Hausa, Kanuri are Essential.

    Nurse Aid

    Main Purpose

    • Assisting in the nursing activities with hospitalised patients, according to nurses and doctors’ prescription, universal hygiene standards and MSF protocols, standards and procedures in order to ensure the delivery of quality medical care for patients.

    Job Description

    • Assisting the nurse in organizing and providing care and treatments to patients, respecting at all times, the rules of hygiene, safety, comfort, dignity, medical secret, and patient confidentiality. Giving response to nurse’s requirements in case of an emergency.
    • Participating in the surveillance and monitoring of the patient and reporting to the nurse any relevant information. Compensating patients’ possible lack of autonomy by assisting and helping them in feeding, personal hygiene, movements, and general comfort.
    • Participating in the monitoring of nursing activities (correctly fill in patient files, etc.) and ensuring a relevant transfer of information between duty teams. Reporting any problem arising in the care unit, especially the loss, robbery, or damage of equipment or medicines.
    • Ensuring cleanliness of his/her working environment (including facilities, material, linen, equipment) and carrying out the sorting and disposal of waste.
    • Working together with the nurses, cleaners, and caretakers.
    • Participating actively in the hospital platform (meetings, committee, trainings) and in the basic health education sessions.
    • Participating in any other related activities as requested by the line manager.
    • Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user manual and protocols. Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device.

    The Specificity of Gwange Pediatric Hospital:

    • The Nurse aid is likely to work day/night.
    • Nurse aids can work in different units (E.R, ICU, Orange, Yellow, Isolation, and Outreach).

    Nurse Aid Job Specific:

    • Performs and documents simple procedures as requested by the doctor or Nurse such as vital signs, anthropometric (MUAC) measures, malaria rapid test, HB and RBS for patients (as instructed), and brings to the attention of medical staff seriously ill patients.
    • Maintains good relationships with other staff and being presentable always in uniform while on duty and stays in duty station at all times during his shift, especially triage, ER, and ICU.
    • Ensures material needed for his work is available. Prepares needs for the shift and presents the request to the ward supervisors at the start of shift.
    • Helps in the cleaning and arrangement of the working environment, pharmacy cupboards, and assists in pharmacy inventory under supervision as requested by the supervisor.
    • Should always respect and observe standard precautions such as wearing uniform while on duty, no hand rings, jewelries, and watches, and knows AEB protocol.
    • Performing minor maintenance and cleaning of the biomedical equipment following user manual and protocols. Alerting the supervisor in case of malfunctioning of any device and ensuring availability of consumables in the units.
    • Prepares and serves milk to patients following the rules on dilution and hygiene, ensures caretakers give milk to patients with the help of staff in the unit.
    • Participates in the medical tour with the doctor and the nurse of his unit.
    • The nurse aid should maintain a good handover and documentation of all procedures performed during his shift including registration of new admissions and discharged patients' files and any other checklist available in his/her unit.
    • Working in collaboration with the different actors and ensuring compliance with MSF protocols.

    Requirements

    • Experience: Working experience of at least 1 year in a hospital or health care centre
