    GBV Case worker

    Job Summary:

    The GBV Case Worker will be responsible for case management and psychosocial support of vulnerable women, including survivors of violence, in one of the project sites in Maiduguri.

    General:

    • Refrain from making false promises and commitments to the beneficiaries and work in the best interest of the IMC GBV Program.
    • Foster a team spirit among GBV staff that is conducive to all staff improving their skills and knowledge base.
    • Being compassionate, having empathy and being patient with beneficiaries
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop the IMC/GBV program

    Administration: Finances, Human Resources, and Logistics: 

    • Ensures that program needs at the field site are met with adequate operational support through regular meetings with project staff, Finance-Administration, Human Resources and Procurement Supervise the project staff, health staff and community volunteers supporting the project.
    • Routinely monitor health staff performance according to their job description and set objectives and provide appropriate and timely feedback to health program staff regarding their performance.
    • Coordinates with the Logistics department on delivery of essential drugs and medical equipment to the various health facilities and any other logistics needs for the project.
    • Liaises with Finance department on payments needed for services intended for the project

    Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse:

    Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.

    Compliance & Ethics:

    Promotes and encourages a culture of compliance and ethics throughout International Medical Corps. As applicable to the position, maintains a clear understanding of International Medical Corps’ and donor compliance and ethics standards and adheres to those standards. Conducts work with the highest level of integrity.

    Main Responsibilities:

    • Provide direct, one-on-one and ongoing case management services, including safety planning
    • Provide direct, one-on-one emotional support to survivors throughout case management process including final case evaluation and closure
    • Provide referrals for survivors to other services including child protection and specialized mental health services, accompany of survivors where appropriate and conduct follow- up to ensure appropriate services have been provided to the survivor.
    • Identify gaps in referral services and report these gaps to the GBV Manager for action.
    • Liaise with community volunteers for purposes of survivor follow-up as part of case management to individual survivors.
    • Ensure survivor-centered services, including adherence to guiding principles of respect, confidentiality, safety and security and non-discrimination
    • Complete and maintain case management records to maximize confidentiality and safety
    • Participate in case review meetings and referral coordination meetings if needed
    • Submit case management reports on a weekly and monthly basis
    • Conduct an analysis of trends of GBV incidences and related information on a quarterly basis and present report to the GBV manager for advocacy and program future program

    • Maintain confidentiality and ethical conduct

    Qualification and Experience:

    • Educated to university level (First degree or HND preferably in social science or a related Field)
    • Hausa language required; English language preferred
    • Demonstrated commitment to helping others.
    • Demonstrated discretion and good judgment
    • Experience working with survivors of GBV an asset
    • Previous training/experience in GBV programming an asset
    • Comfort in living and working in Maiduguri

    GBV Community Outreach Worker

    Job Summary

    • As part of IMC’s gender-based violence (GBV) prevention and response program, the Community Outreach Worker will work to increase the community’s understanding of GBV (including its causes and consequences) and to engage men, women, boys and girls in developing their own strategies to prevent violence and create safer, healthier communities. The Community Outreach Worker will also contribute to the weekly and monthly reporting of the Prevention component implemented in Maiduguri of Borno state.
    • This position reports directly to the GBV Manager.

    Specific Responsibilities

    The responsibilities of the GBV Community Outreach Worker include, but are not limited to the following:

    Program Development and Implementation:

    • With support from the GBV Manager, and in collaboration with GBV community volunteers, conduct quarterly safety audits.
    • Participate in community asset mapping, training of GBV volunteers, and the development of communication materials and advocacy strategies as part of the broader prevention program strategies.
    • Support GBV Community Outreach Volunteers in developing and implementing weekly plans to prevent violence against women and girls in their communities.
    • Work with the Community Outreach Volunteers to disseminate information about the available services for survivors of GBV (Case Management and Medical Services) as well as group activities at WGFS for women and girls.
    • Identify and refer vulnerable women and girls to access services and material support at the WGFS in accordance with their level of vulnerability and needs.
    • In collaboration with the GBV Women Center Facilitator, facilitate awareness raising in the community using the EMAP framework.
    • Support other prevention and awareness activities as needed, including 16 Days of Activism and International Women’s Day Celebrations.

    HR Management & Staff Support:

    • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within International Medical Corps and amongst beneficiaries served by International Medical Corps.
    • Adhere to IMC procedures in preparing the necessary documentation for procuring training approval, materials, and payments for vendors etc, in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Contribute to the positive image and overall credibility of the organization, notably through the application of the organization’s Code of Conduct.
    • Consider security implications of all program activities, reviewing all new initiatives with staff teams and community leaders.

    Qualifications and Experience

    • University Degree in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, etc
    • Two to three years of experience in GBV prevention and response.
    • Clear understanding of gender, abuse of power, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls.
    • Strong background of human rights and familiarity with practical challenges faced by displaced and other vulnerable persons.
    • Experience conducting assessments and a willingness to help plan assessments;
    • Interest in building staff capacity through trainings, coaching, mentoring, etc.;
    • Ability and willingness to work during irregular working hours when needed.
    • Experience developing and facilitating trainings and workshops;
    • Strong computer skills (Excel, Microsoft, PowerPoint and Outlook)
    • Fluency in English (written and spoken) Hausa and Kanuri is a must.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with staff and other stakeholders
    • Proven ability to work and live in very basic living conditions in deep field locations.
    • Ability to work under pressure, with minimal supervision,
    • Self-starter.
    • Resident of Maiduguri is a must.

    • Any other duties that may be assigned from time by supervisors
