    Program Officer

    About the Role

    • The PBDC Programme Officer oversees and leads assigned projects pertaining to partner coordination, research activities, work planning, reporting, budget, contracts/administration, and communications. In addition to having a background in international development and expertise doing research that includes important informant interviews and literature reviews, s/he will possess good project management abilities.
    • The ideal applicant will be knowledgeable about or interested in life-cycle approaches to development. International travel may be necessary.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide support to research including desk and literature review, key informant interviews, and surveys. S/he will also design/review research materials and produce briefing and synthesis documents/reports for meetings and technical consultations. S/he will also support PBDC ethics applications and reporting
    • Coordinate technical advisory group, including maintaining communication with group members, documenting consultations, identifying research questions, and sharing information
    • Support preparation for and implementation of research, including communicating with program and research partners, maintaining timelines and documentation of research activities, and planning for and supporting implementation of research
    • Oversee project coordination and partner collaboration to ensure timely communication, information sharing, and project implementation
    • Coordinate and support work planning, budgeting, and reporting
    • Assist in the preparation and monitoring of contractual agreements with organizations and consultants; monitor, review, and manage approval of invoices.
    • Facilitate efficient communication with donors, partners, and consultants; establish and implement systems for partner, consultant, and field communication
    • Participate in communicating of the project’s vision, activities, and research results; develop/review external-facing presentations, website/social media contents, blogs, briefs, and reports
    • Organize study meetings and events (e.g. study teams, regular donor meetings, technical expert group meetings)
    • Support new business development initiatives as needed
    • Represent PBDC at meetings and events

    Personal Specification

    • Master's Degree in International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Strong time-management skills and an ability to organize and coordinate multiple concurrent projects
    • Flexible team player, willing to adapt to changes and unafraid of challenges
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information related to the company and its employees

    Experience:

    • 3-5 years of experience implementing or managing international security related programs
    • Program management and/or program coordination experience required
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and ethically in international settings with multi-cultural teams and with technical and administrative staff and consultants
    • Proven expertise facilitating collaborative work with diverse partners engaged in complex projects; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with these partners and colleagues and build strong professional relationships and networks

    Skills:

    • Knowledge of donor rules and regulations, with particular emphasis on PBDC

    Executive Assistant and Research Analyst

    About the Role

    • An executive assistant at PBDC is in charge of overseeing the communications and schedules of the executive director, planning and organising legal and strategic documents, and offering general administrative assistance to the executive director and PBDC.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage professional and personal scheduling for ED, including agendas, mail, email, phone calls, client management, and other company logistics
    • Coordinate complex scheduling and calendar management, as well as content and flow of information to senior executives
    • Gathering, analyzing and working with data to improve efficiency, profitability and savings for PBDC
    • Manage senior executives’ travel logistics and activities, including accommodations, transportation, and meals
    • Provide administrative and office support, such as typing, dictation, spreadsheet creation, and maintenance of filing system and contacts database
    • Maintain professionalism and strict confidentiality with all materials
    • Organize team communications and plan events, both internal and off-site
    • Conserving executive's time by handling tasks like drafting letters and researching information.

    Personal Specification

    • First Class Degree holder or Master's Degree in related field.
    • Four or more years of experience in an administrative role reporting directly to upper management

    Research Manager

    About the Role

    • A vital part of PBDC is research, which provides the information and data required to create training guidelines, enhance on-the-ground practices, and successfully lobby for change.
    • We do desk-based and primary research, with a significant portion of our primary work centred on collaborative efforts with security agencies, commercial enterprises, and non-governmental groups.
    • This position presents a stimulating prospect to spearhead the scientific agenda of PBDC and facilitate its broader dissemination. In order to ensure that violence is not used in the rebuilding process, you will oversee ongoing research initiatives on education, security, and peacebuilding. Along with producing desk-based research, you will also create and produce brief policy papers.
    • In order to enable partners to share research expertise, you will be in charge of fostering a community of practice for research and enhancing member research capability.
    • You will create project ideas connected to research, evaluate them for potential financing, offer follow-up assistance, and serve as the main contact for PBDC about research-based projects.

    Duties

    • Arrange, plan, and carry out the given research tasks.
    • Daily oversee team members to ensure research tasks meet deadlines.
    • Regularly monitor project progress and inform management on it.
    • Determine areas in need of improvement and create fresh approaches to reach deadlines.
    • Communicate study findings to management in a way that is clear and concise.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversight of the research components of the PBDC strategy, contributing to any reviews of this strategy as it relates to research.
    • Managing primary research projects, facilitating team members to determine research topics, questions, and methods, and working with members to ensure the timely delivery of research projects.
    • Designing research tools, building capacity of members as needed, and providing distance and hands­on support to data collection, analysis and report writing in collaboration with members.
    • Identifying consultants or research institutes, liaising between consultants and members, quality controlling outputs.
    • Liaising closely with the advocacy team to ensure that research is useful and will lead to policy change.
    • Carrying out desk­-based research or commissioning and managing others in desk-­based research.
    • Identifying potential research partners, building strategic partnerships with research institutes and support scoping of affiliate partners.
    • Ensuring that all research supported by PBDC is carried out in an ethical manner, and adheres to international Standards for Consultation and Research with peacebuilding; developing and promoting tools to support implementation of the standards.
    • Overseeing the monitoring and evaluation of research projects and reporting on research internally and when necessary to external donors.

    Personal Specification

    • Postgraduate Degree with a strong understanding of different social research concepts and approaches
    • Sound knowledge of national security and peacebuilding processes
    • Sound project management skills and experience e.g. developing work­plans and budgets, budget forecasting, onward granting, monitoring progress and spend etc.
    • Range of participatory tools / theoretical justifications for participatory research
    • Ability to carry out desk-­based research
    • Basic understanding of quantitative methods / approaches
    • Sound understanding of research ethics, particularly as they relate to vulnerable children
    • Basic knowledge of means of evaluating and learning from research processes
    • Excellent written and spoken English and ability to write clearly and concisely.

    Research Assistant

    Purpose

    • To support research projects, conducting research, analysing results and generating original ideas. Assist in the supervision of research projects, development of research skills and assessment of knowledge in accordance with the PBDC’s strategy, policy and procedures.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop research objectives and proposals for PBDC or partners research.
    • Continually update knowledge and understanding in field or specialism and develop skills.
    • Dealing with problems which may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
    • Analysing and interpreting the results of PBDC research and generating original ideas based on outcomes.
    • Using new research techniques and methods.
    • Write articles for publication
    • Using initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, developing new research methods and extending the research portfolio.

    Grant Officer

    Key Responsibilities

    • Researching grants that are available for PBDCPBDF from federal departments or private foundations.
    • Implement transparent and effective grants management processes.
    • Identify donor agencies and ensure that PBDCPBDF have the basic requirements to access grants
    • Ensure that the grant funds, when awarded, are appropriately used
    • The above responsibilities are indicative but not exhaustive and can be amended to reflect changing business requirements.
    • Develop grant proposals.
    • Assist in developing new and/or updated resources and toolkits for PBDC partners, and the delivery of coaching sessions and workshops.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant discipline, such as International Relations, Public Administration, Business Administration or other equivalent qualification and experience.

    Experience:

    • 2 - 4 years relevant work experience.
    • Experience of budget management
    • Experience of project management
    • Experience or knowledge of monitoring, evaluation and learning approaches
