    Software Engineer - Juju (Go / Distributed Systems)

    What You’ll Do

    • Work with a variety of languages (primarily Go) to develop high-quality, extensible and reusable software.
    • Actively collaborate with both internal and external users to resolve problems and define new features.
    • Show strong technical leadership and rigour in feature definition, feature delivery and code review.
    • Ensure quality by maintaining the tools, framework and infrastructure to run tests.

    Job Requirements
    Who you are:

    • Degree level education in a technology field  
    • Proven track record of at least 5 years professional software delivery using Go, C, C++ or similar.
    • Solid networking background and experience
    • Experience with agile software development methodologies
    • Experience of the Linux and free software world
    • Working knowledge of cloud computing and experience with highly-concurrent distributed systems
    • Excellent communications skills in the English language, both verbal and written, especially in online environments
    • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of people (both technical and non-technical)
    • Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation, delivering according to a schedule, and to motivate and mentor others to do the same
    • Software development and operational experience with databases

    Desirable skills and experience:

    • Passion for quality and testing
    • Go programming language experience
    • Excellent distributed systems administration experience
    • Proficient DevOps methodology and process
    • Experience with test automation including system level automation and job runners
    • Experience with continuous integration strategies
    • Experience with packaging (debian, snappy)
    • Release Management
    • Technical understanding of complex distributed systems
    • Delivery of scale-out service solutions
    • Experience with container technologies (Docker, LXD, Kubernetes, etc.)
    • Programming with and operating MongoDB
    • Experience working on a distributed team on an open source project -- even if that is outside work open source contributions.
    • Demonstrated track record of Open Source contributions

    Software Engineer (Telco) - VNF / CNF Operator Development (Python / Kubernetes)

    Job Responsibilities

    • Combine your interests in telco and open source software development in this exciting opportunity. We aim to deliver the worlds best open source telco solutions as an integrated, secure and reliable portfolio from Canonical. Our team, working mostly in Python, are building a collection of Charmed Operators that are operated on bare-metal, public cloud and Kubernetes using Juju.
    • This role is primarily a software development role, but with a focus on delivering seamless software operations at scale.
    • As a member of the growing telco solution engineering team at Canonical you will help bring the cutting edge of open source software into the telecommunications sector.
    • You and your team will develop state-of-the-art solutions to operate VNFs and CNFs on Kubernetes and major public clouds. In this role you will work with a variety of open source projects, including Open Source MANO (OSM), Magma, TIP, OpenRAN, ONF, OAI and more.
    • In addition to the engineering behind the network functions themselves, you'll have the chance to work with industry-leading teams inside Canonical to ensure your work is backed by rock-solid data stores, and highly observable using our Kubernetes-based Observability stack.

    What You’ll Do

    Senior Software Engineer - Python (Operator Development)

    Job Description

    • This is an exciting opportunity for a software engineer passionate about open source software, Linux, and cloud-native computing.     • As part of the Charmed Operator Framework team, you’ll be responsible for designing and maintaining the Python framework that allows for the creation and management of Charmed Operators - software that drives software. You will be responsible for ensuring sound software architecture and enforcing best practices in software quality, testing and documentation.
    • This is a role for individual contribution through quality, Pythonic code, exceptional design and intuitive documentation.
    • You’ll be designing and implementing the foundation for software operators that can run anywhere, from bare metal to Kubernetes in the cloud.  You’ll work closely with other teams in Canonical to ensure the framework provides a reliable, easy-to-use solution that scales to production workloads and meets the needs of our customers looking to adopt cutting-edge technology.
    • In addition to the core framework development, this team has responsibilities in the Charmed Operator community, for which Charmhub is the centre. You'll get the chance to work not just with the broad range of talent within Canonical, but the broader open source community. The Charmed Operator ecosystem is made up of Charmed Operators themselves, but also Juju, Pebble and more. Come and help build a thriving community, and contribute to a broad range of technologies that ensure seamless software operations at scale for some of the biggest names in tech.
    • In addition to this role, we are hiring for engineers with experience in operating and automating different classes of software. From Data Platform to Observability and MLOps; if you have experience in automating or operating these kinds of software, then please seek out those roles, or indicate your experience in your application to this role.
