    Tax Operations Leader

    Role Summary/Purpose

    • The role will focus mainly developing a proper tax compliance framework for the businesses operating in Nigeria. Candidate will also support tax operations across sub-Sahara Africa as required

    Essential Responsibilities

    • Understanding the operations of the business, policies & procedures, and accounting records to ensure correct and timely compliance with tax legislation.
    • Assist with the preparation and/or review of corporate income, value-added-tax, withholding tax, consumption tax, payroll tax reconciliation and/or stamp duty returns prior to filing with tax authorities.
    • Assist with preparation and/or review of corporate income tax estimates to ensure that provisional/advance tax payments are accurate.
    • Perform controllership tax checks including reconciliation of all tax liabilities in terms of tax assessments received from the revenue authorities with tax returns filed and deal with discrepancies.
    • Assist with tax audits and work with external tax advisors where required.
    • Preparation of correspondence for queries/disputes with revenue authorities.
    • Attend operational pulsing calls and summarize key achievement, next steps to the team.
    • Participate in the enhancement of ERP systems to facilitate tax compliance.
    • Identify risk areas which can impact on the timely and accurate compliance with tax laws and use the appropriate communication channels provided by the project framework to escalate issues.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • Bachelors Degree in Business/ Finance/ Accounting/Tax.
    • 3 Years in finance
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the Nigerian tax system including the local documentation and filing requirements.
    • Knowledge of Nigerian GAAP.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • A self-starter with a commitment to meet deadlines and able to take ownership.
    • Wanting to work in a dynamic environment with a positive attitude towards change.
    • Ability to learn quickly the internal business processes and apply tax knowledge in the preparation of tax returns.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Team player who is able to work closely with the accounting, corporate, VAT and business tax and finance teams.
    • Strong PC skills, experience with ERP and reporting systems.
    • Willing to travel throughout Sub-Saharan Africa

    Technical Advisor - Field Services

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • Secondary Education in Engineering or applicable technical training or primary education together with 5 years applicable experience in industrial operation
    • Willingness to work various shifts, various days.
    • Experience and proficiency with a PC, email as well as Microsoft office applications
    • Ability to work in railroad locomotive shop environment
    • Professional demeanor and appearance representing GE Transportation to multiple customers.
    • Ability to travel regionally and internationally up to 25% of the time

    Distributed Controllership Leader SSA

    Role Summary/Purpose

    • GE Africa’s Controllership Team has oversight of Operational Controllership in the region, across 40+ diverse countries.
    • The team is responsible for supporting GE businesses in the region in regional risk assessment and risk mitigation, simplification, talent & people development and above all for regional compliance.
    • The GE Africa Controllership Team also owns the regional external audit relationship and the roll-out of Global Controllership initiatives.

    Essential Responsibilities
    The ideal candidate's specific roles & responsibilities include:

    • Support the Global Operations Finance Site Leaders in Sub Sahara Africa & GE Africa Controllership Team by performing Country specific Controllership & Compliance risk assessment.
    • Provide Country specific inputs to global and regional risk management programs including scope & timing of Internal Control team reviews and Corporate Audit Staff audits
    • Plan and ensure execution of Internal Control team’s monitoring processes to ensure the effectiveness of the Finance & Compliance related controls across GE’s Enterprise Standards and Policies
    • Coordinate with process owners to close out remediation actions to close control gaps; this will include discussing and agreeing the remediation actions with the owners and following up to ensure timely closure of the issues.
    • Prepare reports and other deliverables from the monitoring processes for the GE Africa, Country and Regional Leadership.
    • Support Enterprise Standards Leaders and other process owners to implement and monitor remediation actions.
    • Identify and implement Simplification opportunities in Finance processes & controls.
    • Execute and report on compliance investigations, where required
    • Participate in projects and/or regular tollgate reviews with the various SSA project teams where key Controllership projects are in place.
    • Participate in transition process of the “outlier” legal or management entities into having rigorous processes and controls (especially important for recently acquired entities)
    • Report progress on projects and provide inputs into key Controllership dashboards for presentation to GE Africa Leadership
    • Coach and monitor deliverables of team members to ensure output is of the right quality and knowledge is transferred.

    Qualifications/Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance
    • Qualified/Chartered Accountant or equivalent preferably with strong controls, audit & accounting technical knowledge from a Professional audit firm or Internal Audit Function
    • 6 – 8 years’ experience in Audit, Controllership, or Internal audit function
    • Experience with identifying sub-optimized controls & process and identifying & implementing process improvements
    • Experience with working in multicultural teams and executing projects (planning, coordination, communication with senior leaders, etc.)
    • Working knowledge of US GAAP and/or IFRS
    • Knowledge of Country’s key regulatory requirements
    • Excellent analytical skills
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Influencing Skills – Ability to influence across businesses, functions, cadres and cultures
    • Experience leading teams.
