Main Purpose of the Position
- To provide support to the project medical team by giving specialized consultation, clinical and surgical management of obstetric and gynecological patients and to improve and reinforce the quality of obstetrics and gynecology care according to MSF standards.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide health care related to gynecology and obstetrics to patients in the project, including prevention, diagnosis and treatment
- Share the tasks with national GPs in management of obstetric patients; support clinical thinking and decision making, ensure safe management, and coach GPs
- Ensure in collaboration with medical activity manager/MTL the implementation of MSF clinical policies, tools, guidelines and protocols related to gynecology and obstetrics in order to minimize clinical risk and to extend best reproductive practices
- In collaboration with other medical colleagues, carry out the collection of quantitative gynecological data and ensure exhaustive use of management tools
- Participate in the maternal mortality review process / Nearmiss ( record in the dedicated tool, analysis and presentation)
- Participate in collaboration with the head nurse and the Midwife manager the maintenance and running of the gynecological equipment and drug consumption, preparing new orders when required and ensuring its rational use as well as that pharmacy stock level are permanently updated and available.
- Participate in the Plan and supervision of the HR associated processes (recruitment, training, performance evaluation, development and internal/external communication) of the gynecological staff or other staffs
- Participate in the maternal mortality review process / Nearmiss ( record in the dedicated tool, analysis and presentation)
Requirements
- Education: Essential, Gynecology specialist diploma
- Experience: Essential at least 1 year certified work experience in Gynecology
- Language: Pidgin and English required; Haoussa will be an additional
- Knowledge: Essential computer literacy (word, excel)

Salary
Monthly Gross salary of N650,000 Naira (Six hundred fifty thousand naira only) per month plus 13th month allowance equivalent to 1 month of gross salary.

Location: Abakaliki, Ebonyi
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide medical care to patients/beneficiaries suspected / confirmed for Lassa Fever in observation bays (OBs) and virology unit (VU) according to adapted and updated medical knowledge, Contribute to the operation research (OR), LASCOPE study protocol, MSF values and universal hygiene standards to improve the patients/beneficiaries health conditions.
- Apply medical knowledge, skills to diagnose, and prevention. Carry out inpatient consultations in observation bays and virology unit, prescribing the required treatment following the conditions of Lassa fever patients included in the LASCOPE study, this in collaboration with AEGFUTHA counterpart.
- Follow up of the evolution of the hospitalized patients in OBs and in VU , deciding whether patient can be discharged or transferred to other departments following the protocol in place – in collaboration with other doctorsand informing the family about the patient’s evolution(through daily visits, consultations and examinations, prescribing the necessary treatment following LASCOPE.
- Check and control the rational distribution of medicines and equipment under his/her responsibility and take care of the quality, disinfection and sterilization of the medical material. Assure General compliance on IPC measures, standards and hygiene put in place
- Participate in query management and monitoring of the LASCOPE study, checking validity and completion of case report forms (CRFs) for the purpose of medical data collection. Report to the line manager or project coordinator about any problem or complication of the patients’ illness, medical error and monitors the proper functioning of the department, equipment or material.
Minimum Required Skills and Qualifications
Education:
- Medical Doctor Degree. Degree in Tropical Medicine is essential
- Master's Degree in Public health is an added Advantage
Experience:
- 2-year experience minimum as a Medical Doctor
- Recent experience in managing Lassa fever patient in Isolation in the last two months is an added advantage
- Previous management/supervision experience desirable
- Good understanding and knowledge in operational research and clinical trials
Desirable:
- Experience in tropical medicine, or post-registration experience in Public Health, obs and gynae, paediatrics, infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS/STDs, TB, general practice, general medicine or minor surgery
- International NGO experience is desirable
Languages:
- English Language and Igbo language essential.

Duty Station - MSF OCA, (NOMA) - SOKOTO
Main objective and responsibility of the position
Participate in the planning, supervision and coordination of mental health / pycho-social related services in the programme in accordance with MSF standards in order to provide the most appropriate mental health support for patients.
Description of the responsibilities/activities
- Participate in the planning, organization and coordination of Mental Health activities, in close collaboration with the Mental Health activity manager and other medical team members, in order to ensure an efficient and effective implementation of the resources needed while maintaining high levels of quality in Mental Health MSF programs and activities.
- Coordinates activities of counseling services with other relevant actors and liaises with the local counterparts (like MoH, WHO, ICRC and NGO) on mental health matters, including referral services.
- Supervise the daily mental health activities and patient support according to MSF protocols and standards in order to provide the most appropriate support for clients with psycho social needs
- Liaise with the other MSF team members of the project.
- Supervise, in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes (recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection, development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility in order to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required
- Oversee the administrative processes associated with psychosocial functioning.
- When needed, give psychological support to patients according to MSF protocols to improve mental health conditions of patients and enhance their functionality.
- Compile the data and statistic linked with MH activities and report to the MH activity manager
- Offer clinical counselling supervision to mental health counsellors in collaboration with the Mental Health Activity Manager.
- Ensure the patient’s related information is kept confidential
- In addition to MSF humanitarian principles, MH Supervisor will be able to define, discuss, and teach key ethical principles related to psychosocial practice in a medical setting (e.g. informed consent, confidentiality, benefit to the patient, nonjudgemental) and develop strategies to exhibit these principles in day-to-day activties.
Assist the psychosocial team to consistently maintain a structured set of activities to enhance recovery at each stage of Noma: admission, acute/Stage 1 Noma, pre-post op, discharge and follow up.
Demonstrate the ability to model, train, and monitor competencies needed to manage the psychosocial care of NOMA patients to include:
- Complete a psychosocial assessment to identify strengths and needs that will contribute to a patient’s recovery and adjustment.
- Develop a psychosocial treatment plan to address the needs identified in the assessment.
- Develop a plan with each patient for monitoring and managing pain at each stage of Noma recovery.
- Practice basic counseling and communication skills.
- Conduct a counseling session to address the treatment plan and goals of the patient.
- Design and conduct support groups, psychoeducation, and stimulation sessions according to developmental level of patient.
- Engage caregivers of children to enhance positive attachment and effective parenting skills to support good psychosocial outcomes for children living with the consequences of Noma.
- Provide Psychological First Aid to give basic stabilizing support to patients and families who are experiencing a crisis related to medical procedures.
REQUIREMENTS (QUALIFICATIONS):
Education
Master’s Degree in psychology, counseling, or other social science related to the practice of psycho-social services.
Valid practicing license from regulatory authorities.
Experience
- Between 2-4 years of psycho-social counselling experience with at least one of those years practicing under the supervision of a certified counselor/psychologist.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Demonstrated leadership/management experience.
- Ability to work in a multicultural and multidisciplinary setting.
Languages
English language essential (spoken and written). Any Nigerian local language: Hausa desirable.
