Summary:

Responsible for planning, coordinating and controlling of the entire manufacturing process. Also responsible for monitoring the production of goods and the effectiveness of services, ensure accurate amount is produced at the right quality and cost and provide administrative support to production staff.

Objective / Purpose:

Planning

Estimates production cost and implements cost-saving methods for effective production. Also responsible for reviewing existing production schedules and prioritizing projects based on resources, current methods and company requirements.

Production Sequence

Establishes the sequence of steps necessary to build the items in the facility's product lines. Repositions materials or directs the realignment of storage facilities to facilitate deployment of parts and goods to the production lines.

Advisory Capacity

Advises management about product specifications, plant capabilities, and provides updates on issues related to the plant’s machinery. The Production Engineer also keeps customers and management up-to-date on the status of projects in the plant.

Job duties:

• Plan a production schedule for the job
• Implement and control the production schedule
• Review and adjust the schedule where needed
• Determine the human resources required
• Determine the material resources required
• Manage human and material resources to meet production targets
• Make decisions about equipment use, maintenance, modification and procurement
• Work out and implement standard operating procedures for production operations
• Ensure that standard operating procedures are adhered to
• Ensure implementation and adherence to health and safety procedures
• Set product quality standards
• Monitor quality standards of products
• Implement and enforce quality control and tracking programs to meet quality objectives
• Analyze production and quality control to detect and correct problems
• Determine and implement improvements to the production process
• Prepare and maintain production reports
• Monitor and review the performance of staff and organize necessary interventions for improvement
• Estimate production costs
• Set production budgets
• Manage production budgets
• Implement cost control programs
• Ensure efficient collaboration and co-ordination between relevant departments including procurement, distribution and management

Qualification / Essential Requirements:

BSc/HND in a Science and/or Engineering discipline

Minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience in Exercise Book Production and/or Printing Press
