    Clinical Embryologist

    Job Summary:

    • The Clinical Embryologist is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory procedures related to in vitro fertilization (IVF), including the handling of gametes (sperm and eggs), fertilization, embryo culture, and cryopreservation.
    • The role involves working closely with physicians, nurses, and patients to ensure the successful treatment and management of infertility.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Laboratory Procedures:

    • Perform IVF procedures, including oocyte retrieval, sperm preparation, insemination, embryo culture, and embryo transfer.
    • Conduct intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) as required. Opportunity for critical training for these tasks is available if not proficient yet.
    • Handle the cryopreservation and thawing of embryos, oocytes, and sperm using vitrification and other cryopreservation techniques.

    Quality Control and Assurance:

    • Maintain high standards of laboratory practice, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and best practices in embryology.
    • Monitor and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration, cleanliness, and functionality.
    • Participate in quality control programs to ensure the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.

    Patient Interaction and Consultation:

    • Provide information and support to patients regarding laboratory procedures and outcomes.
    • Collaborate with physicians and nurses to develop personalized treatment plans for patients.
    • Communicate with patients about the progress and outcomes of their treatment cycles, including providing updates on embryo development and cryopreservation.

    Data Management and Documentation:

    • Accurately document all laboratory procedures, patient interactions, and results in accordance with legal and ethical standards.
    • Manage and maintain detailed records of all gamete and embryo handling processes.
    • Take part in data collection and analysis for clinical research and improvement of ART techniques.

    Research and Development:

    • Stay updated on the latest developments in embryology, IVF technology, and reproductive medicine.
    • Participate in research projects and clinical trials related to ART and fertility treatment.
    • Contribute to the development and refinement of laboratory protocols and techniques.
    • Significant contribution to data collection and entry into the official AFRHRegistry.

    Training and Education:

    • Provide training and mentorship to junior embryologists, laboratory technicians, and other staff.

    Compliance and Ethics:

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies, including local, national, and international guidelines for ART.
    • Adhere to ethical standards in the handling of gametes and embryos, ensuring patient confidentiality and informed consent.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Reproductive Science, human anatomy or a related field.
    • Master’s degree in Clinical Embryology, Reproductive Medicine, or a related field isanatomy,ed advantage.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience working in a clinical embryology laboratory.
    • Hands-on experience with IVF procedures, including ICSI, embryo culture, and cryopreservation.

    Skills:

    • Proficiency in micromanipulation techniques, including ICSI.
    • Strong understanding of reproductive biology, embryology, and ART.
    • Excellent attention to detail and manual dexterity.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
