    Government & Regulatory Relations Manager

    Government & Regulatory Relations Manager at a Financial Services Company

    Our client is a financial services company involved in consumer lending, asset financing, leasing, investment management, real estate financing & management, and proprietary asset management. The company has a presence in five major locations in Nigeria – Lagos, Abuja, Benin, Enugu, Port-Harcourt. In line with the desire to ensure that key roles are filled by the best talents, the Company seeks to recruit a suitable candidate for the position of a Government & Regulatory Relations Manager.

    Job Purpose: As the link person between the company and Government agencies, the Government & Regulatory Relations Manager is responsible for ensuring smooth and cordial relations between the company and its subsidiaries and Government agencies and departments as well as Regulators. These agencies principally include – but not limited to – the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), relevant State Internal Revenue Services, Local Government Area Councils as well as other relevant government Ministries Departments Agencies (MDAs). The role will be responsible for harmonising the company’s overall strategy for ensuring hitch-free relations with the government agencies across the Group’s various businesses.

    Job Type: Full Time (subject to six months’ probation)

    Qualification: Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Law or Arts; a Master’s degree and (or) relevant professional qualifications will prove to be an advantage

    Experience: Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience, at least 3 of which must be at Management level

    Location: Primary base will be Lagos, Nigeria, but candidate must be available to travel to the various business locations even at short notice

    Reporting Line: The Group Managing Director (GMD)

    Responsibilities:

    • Coordinates government relations and regulatory affairs
    • Serves as a primary contact with government affairs and regulatory affairs agencies.
    • Coordinates the formulation and implementation of company strategy and policies with regards to dealings with government agencies.
    • Analyses and interprets government policies and regulatory requirements, and evaluates potential impact on the Group’s operations.
    • Ensures the effectiveness of internal corporate governance regarding regulatory requirements.
    • Builds and nurtures a network of relevant government and regulatory officials to ensure that the company’s interests are always protected.
    • Monitors and reports on new government policies and regulatory developments that may impact the Group’s business and proposes appropriate internal policy and strategic changes.
    • Represents the Group at official government functions as may be required, with the approval of the GMD.
    • Coordinates the actions of the various businesses to ensure that needed regulatory licenses are obtained or renewed as and when required.
    • Carries out stakeholder advocacy, negotiation and persuasion to advance the Group’s business interests.
    • Coordinates engagements with consultants on government and regulatory issues
    • Creates reporting templates and schedules for the company and its subsidiaries for regulatory and statutory reports.
    • Drives the process for seeking approvals for regulatory licenses, certificates, and other statutory documentary paperwork.
    • Leads the company’s responses to system failures where they occur to mitigate reputational and operational risks to the company.
    • Maintains adequate record keeping for regulatory and statutory affairs.

    Other specifications:

    • Must have excellent communication, inter-personal and influencing skills.
    • Demonstrable ability to operate independently with sound judgement and high integrity.
    • Wide, top-level social network is an added advantage.
