    Junior Communications and Public Relations Officer

    About the job

    • We are currently looking for a highly motivated and focused Junior Public Relations Officer to join our team! Our ideal candidate will have a strong background in public relations, strategic communication, media relations, policy development, and journalism, with interests in brand image management for a political aspirant.

    Responsibilities

    • Spearhead research into trending news coverage, social media conversations, and public opinion polls centred around the political aspirant to inform strategic communications and marketing objectives.
    • Manage social media pages, build supportive communities, and maintain the aspirant's public image and reputation.
    • Media Relations: Set up interviews with radio, local broadcast stations, podcasts, newspaper features, and speaking engagements for strategic positioning.
    • Prepare press releases, draft responses, speeches, and press kits about the political aspirant for external stakeholders.
    • Authority marketing: Write articles on various economic and political issues.
    • Develop and implement strategies to position the aspirant for election success.
    • Investigate influencers, stakeholders, and decision-makers relevant to the aspirant’s initiatives.
    • Collaborate with team members to organise political campaigns and rallies, and develop and implement campaign work plans.
    • Maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including party members, NGOs, coalitions, and government officials.
    • Communicate regularly with campaign leaders to support outreach, sensitisation, and education projects.
    • Facilitate political and popular education workshops and develop corresponding materials.

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in political science, mass communication or public relations,
    • Strong grasp of Nigeria's political landscape, with a particular focus on the South-West region,
    • Based in Ibadan and open to working evenings and weekends,
    • Proficient in social media, with relevant experience,
    • Exceptional research, writing, editing, and journalism skills,
    • Experience developing strategic media and communication plans,
    • Experience interfacing with the media and journalists, and is well-connected with local media, particularly in Oyo State,
    • Have a working knowledge of spreadsheets, Google Workspace, Google Analytics, SEO, and Wordpress to run reports and publish articles,
    • Passionate and curious about policy, media, and political issues,
    • Prior experience working with public affairs, research or media planning, public policy, politics, or government is advantageous.
