    Paralegal & Legal Operations Officer

    The Role 

    • This role plays an integral part in the Group’s Legal & regulatory Affairs function, reporting to Legal Manager. 
    • This role will support the Legal team with (a) legal research, (b) regulatory research, (c) legal operations, and (d) miscellaneous paralegal activities.     

    The duties and responsibilities captured within this role are as follows: 

    Legal Operations:  

    • Managing and tracking timelines associated with legal agreements and renewals thereof. 
    • Serving as the custodian of the legal agreement repository and ensuring that all legal agreements are up-to-date and renewed when they come due. 
    • Overseeing and managing the Contract Management System and ensuring that all information therein is up to date. 
    • Managing the contract finalisation and execution process. 
    • Supporting the compilation and submission of documents associated with license applications. 
    • Supporting with the compilation and upkeep of transaction templates. 
    • Supporting the legal team with ad-hoc organisational and administrative tasks.  

    Legal Research: 

    • Providing legal research to the Legal & Regulatory Affairs department and to the boarder MFS Africa Group. 
    • Conducting ongoing regulatory horizon scanning and sharing relevant findings with the Legal & Regulatory Affairs team. 
    • Providing ongoing research on regulatory matters in key markets. 
    • Conducting ad-hoc research on regulatory licenses and authorisation requirements. 

    Other responsibilities: 

    • Conducting ad-hoc research on relevant topics that may affect the organization. 

    This position is based in either Mauritius, Johannesburg, South Africa, or Lagos, Nigeria and reports to the Legal Manager.  

    Skills and Competencies 

    • Superior verbal and written communication skills in English. French language skills would be a plus.  
    • Strong legal research skills and experience.  
    • Strong Microsoft Office skills.  
    • Able to articulate one’s views in a clear and concise manner.  
    • Excellent listening skills, analytical and problem-solving aptitude.  
    • Able to work autonomously in a highly demanding and often ambiguous environment. 
    • Comfortable working in a diverse, collaborative environment involving different stakeholders and subject matter experts. 
    • Some African experience would be preferable. 
    • Collaborative working style, with the ability to identify and organize resources required to deliver on projects. 

    Qualifications and Experience 

    • Legal operations experience 
    • Legal research experience 
    • 2-3 years experience in a paralegal role.
