About the Role
The Agric. Extension Officer role at One Acre Fund Nigeria is a permanent, mid-level position within the Field Operations department, based in Minna, Nigeria, and reporting directly to the Field Operations Specialist. This important role focuses on ensuring effective agronomic practices, coordinating expansion efforts, and impacting 1 million farmers by 2030. Success is measured by the successful implementation of compliance protocols, expansion into new areas, and increased farmer adoption of best practices. The team has achieved significant milestones, including implementing compliance protocols, expanding into new areas, and increasing farmer adoption of best practices. As part of the Field Operations department, the Officer manages an Agric. Extension Manager and Agric. Extension Agents, overseeing their daily activities and ensuring understanding of organizational objectives.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate agronomic compliance activities across designated regions, ensuring adherence to best practices.
- Help expand One Acre Fund programs into new areas, conducting research to identify suitable locations.
- Support training and capacity-building initiatives for field teams and community members, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.
- Manage team partners relationships, fostering collaboration and support for organizational objectives.
- Analyze data and track Goals to measure the impact of agronomic and expansion efforts, informing strategic decision-making.
Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- 2+ years of relevant experience in extension services, field operations coordination and team leadership.
- Knowledge of agronomic best practices and compliance standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, or a related field.
- Proficiency in using ODK (Open Data Kit).
- Openness to frequent travel, predominantly to support field facing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate in team settings and build relationship.

About the Role
You will support the Trees Lead in operation and execution of the Trees program, overseeing trials and managing field staff. You will directly manage up to 5 supervisors and lead all aspects of operation for the economic trees program across multiple states in Nigeria. You will report directly to the Trees Lead
Responsibilities
- Design Trials and Expansion (40%)
- Lead on the launch and execution of streams of innovations and trials
- Contribute to high-level strategy development and detailed field execution
- Build detailed trial project plans, including execution calendar
- Develop trial budgets and building of sustainable financial models
- Develop Management and KPI tools (e.g., Dashboards, training calendar, KPI trackers)
- Design and conduct market research to improve product and service delivery to clients.
- Strategy (30%)
- High-level trial design – lead discussions on what questions to test through the trial, how to test it, and how the learning will improve longer term program design. Some essential components for discussion include marketing strategy, pricing, and distribution of the product/service.
- Work with the M&E team to design trials and data collection plans to evaluate impact at trial conclusion
- Collaborate with other departments and global research teams to build program solutions and innovations.
- Operations/Team Management (30%)
- Spend time in the field talking to our potential smallholder farmer clients to understand real-time challenges.
- Identify opportunities to improve operations and program performance, through weekly tracking of measurements, and working on process improvements
- Hire and develop teams to operationalize plans
Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- 3 -5 years years of relevant professional work experience, including leading teams or entrepreneurial experience (e.g. starting a new program, department or launching new projects)
- Bachelors degree required in Business Administration, International Development, Agric Economics, or related fields.
- Experience managing projects that involve scaling up.
- Experience implementing strategies at the field level based on field data and programmatic evidence.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of Hausa (and other Nigerian languages) is desirable
