    Chief Security Officer

    Location: Ikeja, Lagos

    Job Objective

    • The Chief Security Officer will be charged with establishing and maintaining Security Services designed to protect the property owners, residents and all common properties and locations to ensure day-to-day privacy and a trouble-free lifestyle for residents.

    Responsibilities

    • Control, direct, and motivate all security personnel to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
    • Work with HR in hiring, termination and assigning all security personnel. New employee vetting which includes employment verifications and criminal history.
    • Maintain proper department personnel files.
    • Perform written evaluations of job performance and promotions in conjunction with HR.
    • Complete monthly time sheets and submit for payroll purposes.
    • Complete Security guard and supervisors’ schedules for active gates and shifts.
    • Monitor security reports/daily logs and gate activities.
    • Develop and oversee training policies and programs for Security Department personnel.
    • Prepare the annual security budget in conjunction with the General Manager and Accounts Department.
    • Recommend equipment purchases; issue equipment and uniforms for the Security Department.
    • Maintain all logs, files, reports and forms ensuring proper and effective performance and to prepare and submit weekly, monthly and annual security activity reports.
    • Maintain and ensure proper telephone, radio and person-to-person communication by subordinate staff.
    • Conduct in-house investigations of crimes and other incidents; present findings to the General Manager.
    • Act as liaison with Law Enforcement agencies and Security Heads in surrounding communities.
    • Represent the Estate at Police Community meetings and submit a comprehensive report of such meetings to the General Manager.
    • Keep abreast of trends, laws and legal aspects of private security through professional associations and seminars.
    • Maintain frequent written and verbal communication with the General Manager.
    • Recommend security policies and procedures for employees and the community residents.
    • Recommend short and long term goals, and security and safety improvements for the Security Department to the General Manager and measures to ensure achievement of such goals.
    • Plan and ensure effective performance of bike and vehicle patrols around the Estate.
    • Maintain a system of vehicular and pedestrian entrance and exit controls deterring unauthorized personnel entrance to the Estate. Respond to and act upon or provide assistance to all emergency situations. Perform security checks and traffic control. Respond to and appropriately handle incidents and complaints.
    • Ensure all patrol vehicles, security and communication equipment are operable.
    • Establish a Standard Operating Procedures Manual and an Emergency Response Plan required to ensure efficient operations and timely response to the requirements of the community.
    • Ensure all Security guards are completely kitted.

    Qualifications / Experience

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or its equivalent in Psychology, Social Service or Criminal Justice.
    • Preference for ex-service professional with a minimum of 15 years’ related experience and training with the military, police or state security services.

    Competencies:

    • Experience in dealing with the public with a high degree of tact and confidentiality.
    • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work activities
    • Ability to direct staff.
    • High level of independent judgment.
    • Ability to maintain customer relations.
    • Dependability & punctuality.
    • A high level of integrity and trust.
    • Knowledge of State and Federal guidelines on security.
    • Ability to coordinate multiple activities simultaneously.
    • Ability to formulate Annual Budgets and set objectives for the operation of the Security Department.
    • Ability to work extended hours, days, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
    • Ability to speak in a clear and understandable voice so that communication may be conducted with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
