    Legal, Risk and Compliance Manager

    The Legal, Risk & Compliance Manager is an exciting role leading all aspects of the company’s legal, risk and compliance operations. You’ll work cross functionally on matters ranging from strategic and tactical legal matters to compliance best practice and advising on our product. You will report to our Founders and have accountability for all aspects of building a high-performing legal and compliance function.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee the operations of the Legal, Risk & Compliance department.
    • Oversee the delivery of legal, risk management and compliance services and resources to accomplish corporate goals and priorities.
    • Conduct assessments to define and analyse possible risks, evaluate the gravity of each risk by considering its consequences and report risks to key stakeholders.
    • Audit processes and policies to identify weaknesses and strengthen them
    • Develop risk management controls, systems and processes to eliminate or mitigate potential risks and manage crises
    • Work closely with key stakeholders and external counsel to advise business on various laws, regulations and standards in various jurisdictions of business operation including international obligations.
    • Advice and address business/operations queries and any changes resulting in regulatory approvals and maintain proper corporate interactions with the relevant local, state, federal governmental and international bodies to ensure the business is up to date with the changing regulatory environment
    • Building scalable processes that support legal, risk and commercial decision making
    • Review and provide advice to the business on matters concerning applicable laws, licensing and contracts required for operation of the business
    • Ensure that applications for new activities/businesses are compliant, mitigate risk and that conduct of activities are in line with regulations
    • Review, negotiate, manage and finalise business contracts, including client and vendor contracts across various business needs
    • Prepare and defend the business interests in commercial contracts and in a court of law whenever required.
    • Inform and educate employees on matters that are associated with law, regulations and industry practices through internal policies and training.
    • Understand the risks and opportunities in new and upcoming laws and regulations

    Qualifications

    • 6+ years experience as a qualified Lawyer / Solicitor with relevant training from a reputable Law firm
    • Experience working in the Finance industry
    • Good knowledge of applicable Microfinance Bank regulations and related compliances
    • Experience liaising with external agencies and regulatory bodies
    • Willingness to extend experience into other areas of law (Employment, IP)
    • Should be able to articulate queries well and provide satisfactory solutions to business
    • while ensuring compliance with applicable regulations
    • A proven record of success in a management level, preferably in the banking and finance industry.
    • Strong problem solving abilities in order to identify issues and remedy them as necessary
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
    • Meticulous attention to detail with critical analytical skills
    • Strong management and leadership qualities with proven ability to mentor - lead, train, coach and develop Team Members.
    • Highly organized and able to operate at pace and in ambiguity are key to this role, as well as being able to manage and operate across competing and changing priorities
    • Strong work ethic, with a high performance and growth mindset at the forefront of everything you do.
