    Medical Superintendent

    Purpose of the Role

    • The Medical superintendent will oversee and supervise the daily functions of the Radiology, Nursing, Laboratory, Prosthetics & Orthotics, Pharmacy and Physiotherapy Departments and focus on improving the quality of patient care delivery.
    • You will direct and coordinate the activities of the respective departments as well as provide solutions to the day-to-day challenges they face.
    • Develop and set operational strategies and implement policies, procedures, and best practices and ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws.

    Key Performance Areas

    • Work with the respective line managers to ensure the delivery of quality health care.
    • Supervise and advise on clinical activities, including both outpatient and inpatient services, ward rounds, and promoting a culture of learning and keeping up up-to-date on diagnostic and treatment practices.
    • Lead teams to conduct needs assessments and clinical studies and surveys as appropriate where necessary, and with adherence to national and international clinical ethics.
    • Provide strategic leadership to the hospital and ensure that departmental and operational plans align, and manage resource requirements (e.g., expenditure, human resource planning) necessary to deliver against the overall objectives of the organization.
    • Supervise the team activities, and ensure that patients’ needs are attended to and that departments are managed proactively with a view to improving efficiency and maintaining professional etiquette.
    • Take part in personnel recruitment and selection process; periodical and annual appraisals; performance reviews and disciplinary matters.
    • Ensure that individual performance and development needs are met and that employees are high performing and engaged.
    • Work with the heads of departments to promote and nurture a culture of good stewardship, accountability, and transparency at all levels of hospital operations
    • Facilitate the sustainability of hospital operations via the development of public/private partnerships, collaboration with development partners, research and health and learning institutions in the country.
    • Promote a culture of compliance with government, organization, and partner contract policies, rules, and regulations.
    • Represent the hospital in meetings when invited
    • To supervise rounds outside regular duties-night rounds
    • Conduct surprise audit
    • Planning and departmental budget monitoring and conduct weekly operational audits to ensure proper standards are being met.
    • Day-to-day administration of the area/department assigned to you
    • To Propose the assigned department's annual Safety and quality improvement plans to the Hospital manager for implementation.
    • Monitor and manage the day-to-day operations of all departments to ensure the delivery of medical services of high quality.
    • Collaborate with Technical team to have a preventive maintenance schedule of all medical equipment and physical assets for effective work flow.
    • Review and submit a monthly, quarterly and yearly reports as required.
    • To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.

    Education, Certification and Experience Requirements

    • B.Sc Degree in Health Administration and Management, or Public Health or any related field.
    • Master of Health Administration or Business Administration (MBA)
    • 10 years plus experience.
    • Healthcare risk management experience.
    • Experience in hospital administration.

    Profile Requirements:

    • Excellent administrative skills and a background in healthcare administration.
    • Strong leadership and supervisory skills
    • Planning and problem-solving skills
    • Has excellent managerial and organizational skills.
    • Interpersonal skills to interact productively with healthcare practitioners
    • Knowledge of computerized hospital management systems.
    • Fluent in written and spoken English; knowledge of the local vernacular is a plus.
    • Previous experience in hospital staff supervision, coaching, and training.
    • Exceptional ability to deal with, and lead, change and to present ideas that motivate staff to strive for increased achievement of the organization’s mission, vision, and strategic goals and objectives.
