    Student Activities Officer

    The American University of Nigeria, Yola, is seeking for a Student Activities Officer. This is both an INTERNAL and EXTERNAL position open to indigenous and/or legal residents of Nigeria.

    SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    The Student Activities Officer is charged with the responsibility of supervising, planning, and executing a diverse range of student events, including orientation for new students, social and cultural events, and community service initiatives. The incumbent will work closely with students, and other staff members to create a dynamic and engaging University experience that supports student development and enhances campus life with a view to ensure that all student activities comply with University policies and procedures.

    DETAILED LISTING OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Design, organize, and implement major student events such as orientation for new students, cultural festivals, social gatherings, and community service projects.
    • Set up, troubleshoot, and oversee major university events such as homecoming, concerts, shows, pageants, and intramural sporting events.
    • Oversee and supervise the Campus Activities Board as well as Registered Student Organizations
    • Support in setting up and carrying out elections for the Student Government Association.
    • Prepare, manage, and monitor budgets for student activities and events, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
    • Place purchase orders and retire invoices for all major events in the Office of Student Activities.
    • Coordinate workers, drivers and cleanup crews for set up and breaking-down of event venues.
    • Supervise, train, and manage student employees in the Office of Student Activities.
    • Maintain excellent working relationships with all staff and our network of vendors.
    • Register and monitor student-run businesses on campus.
    • Oversee and regulate fund-raising activities for registered student organizations on campus.
    • Coordinate logistics for events, including venue selection, transportation, catering, and audio-visual equipment.
    • Supervise and provide support during events to ensure they run smoothly and address any issues that arise.
    • Develop and implement initiatives to help new students integrate into the University community and adjust to campus life.
    • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations to facilitate service projects and volunteer opportunities for students.
    • Maintain accurate records of all student activities, including event attendance, budgets, and evaluations.
    • Prepare regular reports on student activities, including event outcomes, student participation, and budget expenditures.
    • Assist in developing and distributing promotional materials for student events and activities through various communication channels.
    • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Requirements for the position:

    • Bachelor's degree from a reputable tertiary institution.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years post NYSC experience in student affairs, event planning, or a related field, preferably within a higher education setting.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
    • Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
    • Creativity and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in using event management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
    • High level of enthusiasm and commitment to student development.
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules.
    • A proactive and energetic approach to work.

    • Ability to organize work effectively and deal calmly and patiently with multiple tasks simultaneously and efficiently
    • Possess high level interpersonal and people skills.
    • Possess the ability to arrange tasks in order of priorities and perform efficiently
