    Program Manager

     Reports to:    Northwest Regional Coordinator

    About the Project

    We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Program Manager to manage  the "Strengthening Food Systems to Promote Increased Value Chain Employment Opportunities for the Youth in Nigeria" project. The project aims to create sustainable job opportunities and income generation for young women and men in the agribusiness sector, focusing on sorghum, millet, groundnut, soybean, and horticulture value chains. It is providing capacity building and training in business development, financial literacy, and technical skills, empowering participants to become successful entrepreneurs and leaders in their communities.

     Key Responsibilities

    • Oversee day-to-day management of the project, ensuring timely and effective implementation of all activities.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies and partners.
    • Coordinate project planning, monitoring, and evaluation processes.
    • Supervise and support project staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
    • Provide technical guidance in agribusiness development, value chain enhancement, and post-harvest management.
    • Prepare technical reports and presentations, highlighting project achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
    • Document and share best practices, success stories, and innovative approaches to enhance project visibility.
    • Offer technical solutions to emerging issues, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption.
    • Facilitate market linkages between project participants and buyers, off-takers, and financial service providers.
    • Deliver business development services to support the growth of youth-led enterprises and SHF cooperatives.
    • Develop and implement strategies to ensure the inclusion and active participation of youth and women in all project activities.
    • Collaborate with project teams to integrate gender-sensitive approaches and youth-focused initiatives across all project components.
    • Identify and mitigate risks associated with project implementation.
    • Present regular progress reports to the Project Management Unit (PMU) and other stakeholders.

    Qualifications

    • Advance degree in Agribusiness, Development Studies or related field.
    • At least 7 years of experience in managing large-scale development projects, particularly in the agriculture and agribusiness sector.
    • Proven experience in managing multi-stakeholder projects, including experience with donor-funded projects.
    • Proven track record working small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
    • Strong understanding of agricultural value chains, particularly in Nothern Nigeria.
    • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse environment.
    • Fluency in English; knowledge of local languages is an advantage.

    Agribusiness Development Specialist

    About the Project

    We are seeking a skilled and experienced Agribusiness Development Specialist to support  the "Strengthening Food Systems to Promote Increased Value Chain Employment Opportunities for the Youth in Nigeria" project. The project aims to create sustainable job opportunities and income generation for young women and men in the agribusiness sector, focusing on sorghum, millet, groundnut, soybean, and horticulture value chains.      Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct value chain assessments for sorghum, millet, groundnut, soybean, and horticulture.
    • Identify key constraints and opportunities within the value chains to enhance productivity and market access.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with market actors, including buyers, processors, input suppliers, and financial institutions.
    • Facilitate the establishment of partnerships and contractual agreements between smallholder farmers and off-takers.
    • Provide technical assistance and training to project participants on best practices in agribusiness, including production, processing, and marketing.
    • Develop training materials and modules tailored to the specific needs of different value chain actors.
    • Support the development and strengthening of agribusiness enterprises, including cooperatives and youth-led enterprises.
    • Advise on business planning, financial management, and entrepreneurship, helping enterprises to scale and access finance.
    • Promote the adoption of innovative technologies and practices that enhance value chain efficiency and sustainability.
    • Introduce appropriate technologies for post-harvest handling and value addition.
    • Provide ongoing advisory support to project participants on agribusiness development issues.
    • Offer expert insights on emerging trends and challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly related to youth employment and entrepreneurship.
    • Design and implement strategies to ensure the sustainability of agribusiness initiatives and long-term impact on participants.
    • Promote environmentally sustainable practices and climate-smart agriculture within the value chains.
    • Document best practices, lessons learned, and success stories for dissemination and scaling-up.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Agribusiness, Agricultural Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree is preferred.
    • At least 5 years of experience in agribusiness development, with a focus on value chain enhancement.
    • Strong knowledge of the agricultural sector in Nigeria, particularly in the targeted value chains.
    • Experience in market analysis, business planning, and financial management for agribusinesses.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse environment.
    • Fluency in English; proficiency in local languages is an advantage.

    Capacity Building & Training Coordinator

    About the Project

    We are seeking a skilled and experienced Capacity Building and Training Coordinator to support the "Strengthening Food Systems to Promote Increased Value Chain Employment Opportunities for the Youth in Nigeria" project.     • Plan and deliver training sessions, workshops, and seminars on business development, financial literacy, good agricultural practices, and technical skills in processing and post-harvest management.
    • Coordinate with external facilitators, training institutions, and industry experts to ensure comprehensive and high-quality training delivery.
    • Support the development of practical, hands-on training modules and facilitate field demonstrations and site visits.
    • Implement strategies to enhance participants' skills and competencies in agribusiness, entrepreneurship, and market access.
    • Develop and implement vocational and professional certification pathways in collaboration with government and private sector partners.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, ensuring continuous improvement and adaptation to emerging needs.
    • Maintain records of training activities, participant progress, and outcomes.
    • Provide mentorship and support to trainees, fostering an environment conducive to learning and growth.
    • Continuously review and update training content and methodologies to align with industry standards and emerging trends in agribusiness and value chain development.
    • Incorporate participant feedback and lessons learned to refine and improve training programs.

    Qualifications

    • Conduct comprehensive market analyses to identify demand trends, price structures, and potential buyers for products within the targeted value chains. Develop and implement strategies to enhance market access for project participants, focusing on both domestic and international markets.
    • Identify and establish relationships with potential buyers, off-takers, and market intermediaries for agricultural products. Facilitate contracts and agreements between farmer organizations, agribusinesses, and buyers to secure market outlets for produce.
    • Support the formation and strengthening of producer groups, cooperatives, and other market-oriented structures.
    • Work closely with value chain actors, including processors, wholesalers, and retailers, to strengthen linkages and streamline supply chains. Support the development of efficient and effective value chain models that improve market access and product competitiveness.
    • Train and mentor project participants in market-oriented production, quality standards, packaging, and branding. Provide technical assistance on compliance with market requirements, including quality control, certification, and food safety standards.
    • Develop and manage market information systems to provide real-time data on market trends, prices, and opportunities to project participants. Ensure that participants have access to timely and accurate market information to make informed decisions.
    • Establish and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders, including private sector actors, government agencies, and development organizations. Participate in relevant forums and networks to advocate for improved market access and policies supporting smallholder farmers and agribusinesses.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of market access interventions, including tracking sales volumes, income changes, and market penetration. Report on outcomes, challenges, and best practices, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.

    Qualifications
