    Hygiene Officer

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure the implementation of WASH Emergency approach and collect the relevant data for context specific hygiene promotion interventions;
    • Ensure that a joint multisectoral rapid needs assessment is carried out, analysis done and hygiene promotion strategy is designed on the basis of the findings;
    • Promote the implementation of BabyWash  approach and collect the relevant data to improve context specific BabyWash  hygiene promotion interventions;
    • In coordination with the WASH Program Manager, revising and adapting hygiene promotion training and IEC materials in line with the local context (should be drawn up as a communication plan) and in line with target groups to be trained;
    • Ensure that all monitoring mechanisms are in line with the agreed monitoring format;
    • Continually assessing emergency needs, as requested, especially taking in the broader perspective of public health;
    • Plan beneficiary selection and registration, and lead the distribution of NFI kits with the Field Assistant team;
    • Work closely with MEAL team to ensures post distribution monitoring (PDM) is conducted for all non -food items (NFIs) distributed;
    • Ensure that work meets with SPHERE minimum standards;
    • Assist the WASH Program Manager with, and where required participate in, community mobilisation;
    • Ensure that all technical work reflects the needs and preferences of different target groups and are devoid of public health hazards;
    • Ensure that the PHP team members are fully aware of the hygiene promotion strategy and all activities are in line with strategy activities;
    • Prepare training tools on relevant technical topics and conduct trainings for both internal staff and external stakeholders;
    • Assist the WASH  Program Manager in the development of technical guidelines and tools for hygiene promotion services;
    • Conduct WASH FIT assessment for all implementing health facilities;
    • Assess areas for improvement and recording lessons learnt for future activities;
    • Working closely with the WASH Program Manager throughout the planning, design and implementation stages of WASH public health promotion activities;
    • Representing the organization at local level WASH meetings and technical working groups relating to Public health promotion and NFI distribution as required by your line manager;
    • Work closely with Nutrition and health team in integrating activities towards improving service delivery to target population;
    • Participating in staff’s recruitment in line with agreed organogram structure;
    • Providing day-to-day management of staff directly under your responsibility;
    • Setting performance missions with staff under your direct management conducting performance appraisal in line with ACTION AGAINST HUNGER  performance management policies as well as identifying areas where support and capacity building is required;
    • Ensure team coordination and integration with other WASH technical team members.

    Position Requirements:

    • B.sc in public and Environmental Health, Hygiene and Sanitation related field;
    • Must be willing to travel any location within Northern Nigeria;
    • Previous experience in supervising hygiene promotion activities;
    • Capacity to be adaptable and flexible;
    • Two to three years of relevant work experience;
    • Microsoft Office software Skills (Outlook, Excel, Power Point, Word);
    • Willing and able to be based and travel regularly within remote areas, where services are limited;
    • Fluency in English and Hausa language;
    • Experience working in an emergency programme (RRM) will be an added advantage.

    Pharmacist

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Organize weekly environmental cleaning in the pharmacy warehouse and environs;
    • Monitor twice a day humidity of the warehouse and temperature of all refrigerators containing medications or any cold chain products and record it on the follow up sheet. And in all the rooms under controlled temperature; 
    • Maintain an organized and clean pharmacy in the warehouse: the drugs must be tidied, organised in a hygienic and clear way according to Action Against Hunger’s rules of classification of drug, allowing easy access to the information (type of drugs, expiry date);
    • Report immediately any deviation from the expected temperature and humidity ranges to the pharmacy supervisor, enquire the reasons of the dysfunctions and propose possible solutions;
    • Ensure that all medical supply is adequate;
    • Follow expiry dates of all pharmacy items and report items which need to be replaced and necessary follow up to ensure that items are replaced in a timely manner;
    • Make arrangements for the proper disposal of expired drugs/material, a part from the rest of the supply;
    • Collaborate when necessary to the destruction of the expired drugs;
    • Assist program team to amend the weekly/monthly request: control and monitor the quantity ordered;
    • Ensure that the drugs supplied to the different centres are appropriate and necessary;
    • Ensure that appropriate storage of the drugs is occurring in the various centres;
    • Prepare the solutions and medical items requested by the medical units and deliver them in timely manner;
    • Check the quantity and quality of medical equipment in emergency box and ensure that the box is complete at any time;
    • Check the health facility pharmacy stores: ensure the good storage conditions, the cleanliness, the quality and quantity of the drugs, check the expired drugs at the end of each month;
    • Maintain an adequate supply of medical forms and documents forms – responsible for reordering supplies in a timely manner;
    • Ensure the reception of local / international orders;
    • Check that the number of box and their content match with the packing list and waybill;
    • Arrange and order the medical items as regards to their specificity and expiring date;
    • Record all entry of items on stock cards with the order number and expiring dates;
    • Record the items either in terms of unit or box, according to Action Against Hunger’s specifications, in order to facilitate the process of orders;
    • Inform the program team of all problem or item missing in the reception of the order;
    • Record any medical item entry and exit in stock cards on weekly basis;
    • Do the weekly/monthly drugs inventory;
    • Report discrepancies and general consumption issues to the pharmacy supervisor;  
    • Work with program team to amend drug and stock quotas on a weekly basis to prevent exceptional ordering;
    • Responsible for inventory and replacement of all emergency boxes – following the schedule for these.

    Position Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy;
    • Experience in stock management;
    • Fluency in spoken and written English language. Hausa language is desirable;
    • Strong work ethic: punctuality, responsibility and flexibility;
    • Strong sense of organisation and attention to details;
    • Capacity to work in a team;
    • High level of motivation;
    • Computer skills (Microsoft office);
    • Work experience in INGO setting will be an added advantage;
    • Experience in a pharmacy supply for hospital projects.
