    Mariner

    Description

    • Becoming an RLC Mariner means working outdoors on the water, all over the world. You need to be able to think on your feet, even in the most challenging of situations and be able to work well under pressure.
    • Acting as part of a vessel’s crew, you will form part of the vessels watch, helping with navigational safety, stability and security. Your role is also essential to the safety of your vessel, crew mates, passengers and cargo.
    • We often work alongside the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and in support of the Royal Marines, carrying out real-life tasks such as hurricane and disaster relief in and around the Caribbean.
    • Aside from seamanship, there are also opportunities to get involved in the huge array of sports represented within the Army, as well as all forms of Adventurous Training - from Alpine skiing and snowboarding to ice climbing and scuba diving.

    Port Operator

    Description

    • Work in a port and learn how to load and unload cargo from ships. Travel the world supporting the Army and other Services.
    • We use specialist machinery, such as cranes and drive different types of vehicles in order to carry out our operations.
    • Working alongside the Royal Marines and Airborne Forces means that we get plenty of opportunities to travel, working in ports worldwide and helping to support operations and disaster relief tasks.

    Description 

    • Learn vital medical skills with first-class Army training that is fully funded by us. You will be able to apply the skills you learn in operating theatres worldwide.
    • When it comes to surgery, Operating Department Practitioners are crucial. They prepare operating theatres and work alongside surgeons and anaesthetists during procedures.

    Armoured AS90 Gunner

    Description

    • You’re in charge of an awesome machine: the AS90 self-propelled gun. It weighs 45 tonnes, travels at 32 mph and can fire three, 155mm shells up to 15 miles in 10 seconds.
    • You and the five-soldier crew will learn all about this weapon: how to drive it and fire the gun. At the same time, you will get your tracked vehicle driving licence and other qualifications, for example in IT. That way, you can build a career inside or outside the Army. It’s not all hard work though, there’s Adventurous Training, sports and the chance to make great friends.
    • The Royal Artillery is the heart of the action - everywhere across the battlefield - providing the British Army with its eyes, ears and firepower. Using high-tech surveillance devices and uncrewed aircraft, the Royal Artillery finds the enemy. We then monitor them before striking decisively.     Metalsmith

    Description

    • Tanks, helicopters, generators - As an Army metalsmith you will make repairs and fabricate, to put heavy vehicles and machinery back on the battlefield.
    • Metalsmiths use their trade, day in, day out, to repair everything from tanks, to boats and generators.
    • You'll be a highly trained welder, sheet metal worker and blacksmith - ready to get dirty and work carefully, even in tough conditions.
    • You'll travel the world, working independently and in small teams to keep the Army's vehicles fighting.
    • The Corps of the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME) provides engineering support to maintain and repair the vast array of British Army equipment.

    Biomedical Scientist

    Description

    • Manage blood supplies and diagnose diseases both at home and overseas.
    • As one of the Army's Biomedical Scientists, you'll work with medical officers in military and NHS hospital laboratories. Yours is a vital role – you diagnose diseases by testing blood samples. Although you’re normally based in the UK, you also get the chance to go on operational tours with units around the world.

    Description

    • As a Logistic Supply Specialist, you will play a vital role in the logistical support required by the Army. Food, weapons, equipment – the Army needs all kinds of supplies, all the time. It’s your job to track, store and distribute stock - delivering everything needed on operations. You will also learn how to use cutting-edge IT systems and how to drive HGV’s and forklifts.
    • You can be employed in other organisations and undertake work placements with industries to understand best practice. You will also gain an understanding of IT systems used by other military alliances.

    Gunner - Missile System

    Description

    • Learn how to fire the high-powered armoured rocket launcher that has a crucial impact in battles.
    • Travel, make friends and take qualifications, too.
    • You’re on the battlefield with your team of three.
    • Together, you use an armoured rocket launcher to fire high-powered missiles at targets up to 50 miles away.
    • The rockets travel at 1,200 mph and are very accurate.
    • First-class training teaches you to use the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, but you’ll learn much more than that.
    • You’ll also get to take qualifications and gain new skills, building a great CV. With sports, worldwide travel and Adventurous Training, too, there’s action plus an exciting future.

    Gunner - Artillery Surveillance Observer

    Description

    • You spot enemy's units and artillery using radar and acoustic ranging systems.
    • Then we lock in on them, which may save many lives. Off duty, there’s an unbeatable Army lifestyle.
    • Picture this: your troops are coming under heavy fire. The enemy guns need to be destroyed. It's up to you to pinpoint their position using radar and acoustic detection equipment and tell your commander so Army artillery and missiles can take out the enemy guns.
    • This is a typical day for a Surveillance Observer. Whoever the enemy and whatever the weapon, you’ll help us stop them in their tracks.
    • It’s a job that can take you around the world. In time, you can specialise further by taking on Parachute selection, the Commando Course or the Patrols course.
    • These courses allow you to work alongside the Parachute Regiment and the Royal Marines, and become a Special Observer working in a team of six well ahead of friendly forces and sometimes behind enemy lines.

    Description 

    • First-class training helps you become a Dental Nurse. It’s much like being the civilian job, but with added excitement, travel, sports and career development.
    • As a Dental Nurse you’ll play your part in keeping soldiers well so that they can do their jobs.

    Description

    • As a Dog Handler, you’ll take Military Working Dogs wherever the Army is deployed. You start by working with protection dogs, making sure that bases and Army sites are safe and secure. Later, you might be chosen to handle specialist dogs that can sniff out arms and explosives.

    Light Gunner

    Description

    • You control the Light Gun, a weapon that can go almost anywhere. You and your crew travel into action and support Infantry or other combat units – which means you’re crucial in battle.
    • You’ll be trained to look after the gun and fire it, hitting targets up to 10 miles away. In some of our Reserve roles, in time you can attempt the arduous Patrols course to become and elite Special Observer – working in a team of six well ahead of friendly forces and sometimes behind enemy lines.
    • You can also learn new skills and take qualifications – even learn to drive an HGV. Your CV will take you far, inside or outside the Army. With sports, Adventure Training and great mates around you too, it's an exciting career.

    Surveyor

    Description

    • You’re at the heart of Army building projects. Once trained, you work on sites all over the world and get to build your qualifications too.
    • In the Army, we have all kinds of building projects – new bases, runways and more. As a Surveyor, you’ll use the latest technology to map out the construction site and create designs before building work starts. You make sure that everything is set out correctly and that the structure is the same as the plans. It's a responsible job that calls for pinpoint accuracy – so you’ll get first-class training.
    • You learn about technical drawing, surveying, IT and more. With this knowledge plus a good eye for detail, you’ll travel the world, working on all sorts of projects and making great mates.
    • Surveyor is a Specialist role in the Royal Engineers. All the Royal Engineer soldier job roles are divided into 5 groups. When you apply to the Engineers, you will apply to the trade group rather than the specific trade. 
    • The Corps of Royal Engineers allows the Army to work all over the world, whether it's involved in active combat or disaster relief.     HR Officer

    Description 

    • Lead a team of personnel specialist soldiers at home and overseas. With the possibility to be attached to any regiment in the Army, your opportunities are endless.
    • As a Detachment Commander, you can be posted to any regiment in the British Army, be that at home or overseas. You will lead a Detachment of 10-20 AGC(SPS) soldiers.
    • Your responsibilities include the training and development of your soldiers, leading them on exercises and operations and managing their careers. You will also provide critical enabling support to your Regiment.

    Educational & Training Services Officer

    Description 

    • The ETS’s three main roles are the delivery of military education, the design of military training, and developing the cultural and linguistic requirements of the Army.

    Legal Officer

    Description

    • You will advise on a range of legal issues across the Army. As a Legal Officer you will have a challenging and interesting career with opportunities which few other legal practices can offer.
    • Army Legal Services (ALS) Officers are barristers and solicitors who are qualified in England & Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
    • They perform a range of crucial tasks, from prosecuting at court martial to advising senior commanders. 
    • ALS officers practise law without timesheets or billable hours targets. There is opportunity for worldwide travel, delivering legal advice in interesting and challenging environments.
    • There is a structed career with the chance to for promotion up to Major General and to gain post-graduate qualifications funded by the Army. 
    • ALS officers are also given opportunities to keep up with their CPD through attendance at a number of internal and external courses, play sport for the Adjutant General’s Corps and the Army, and go on adventure training including skiing, cycling and hiking.

    Providing Military Legal Support To The Army:

    • Army Legal Services (ALS) is a specialist all-Officer branch of the Adjutant General's Corps. ALS is comprised of professionally qualified solicitors, barristers and Scottish advocates.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Operational law - Advising senior commanders on operational law, including detention, targeting and rules of engagement. This takes place both during the planning stages of exercises and operations and whilst deployed on the ground.
    • Prosecutions - Management and progression of cases at the Service Prosecuting Authority from initial referral to trial, including making charging decisions, dealing with evidential issues and disclosure, and prosecuting cases at Court Martial.
    • Advisory law - Training and advising officers and soldiers from other parts of the Army on discipline and administrative action, advising on health and safety and employment law (amongst other areas), and preparing publications to support the Chain of Command.

    Entry Requirements
    Qualifications:

    • At the date of joining, you must be a qualified solicitor or barrister in the jurisdictions of England and Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
    • ALS only recruits those that are fully qualified, however you may begin your application whilst you are still undergoing your training.
    • Those undergoing a training contract, qualifying work experience or a pupillage can apply up to 9 months prior to qualification.
    • Some people join the ALS as newly qualified lawyers, and some serve for many years in private practice before joining.

    Geographic Technician

    Description

    • Become an expert in analysing terrain to deliver mapping products, producing vital intelligence to inform commanders on the ground.
    • Where’s the best place to build a helicopter landing site? What’s the best route for a tank? And where would a missile do the most damage?
    • Geographic Technicians answer all these questions and more. Trained in high-tech Geographic Information Systems, they analyse the landscape and give us vital data about it.
    • Join us in this key role and you’ll learn to scan satellite pictures for enemy sites, make 3D models of the battlefield, plan special routes and more. Your training can take you far – within and outside the Army – plus, you’ll get to travel and do sports with mates.

    Uncrewed Aerial Systems

    Description 

    • Be at the heart of action – even back at the base. Fly remote-controlled drones into enemy territory to gather vital information.
    • Drones are uncrewed aircraft that can fly over the battlefield. Join us as a Gunner – Uncrewed Aerial Systems and we’ll teach you how to control them: how to prepare a drone for missions, how to fly it and how to read and interpret the images, videos and data - either live or when it brings them back.
    • In time you could attempt the arduous P Company couse and join the battery which supports the Parachute Regiment. At the same time, you’ll learn skills and get qualifications that you can use in civilian life – in everything from IT to leadership.
