    WASH Technical Assistant

    Roles and responsibilities

    The WASH Assistant shall ensure quality control of all Water supply and Sanitation construction activities at field level. The incumbent shall travel regularly to all the NRC construction sites assessing construction and assisting in the completion of M&E reports at field level.

    Generic Responsibilities

    • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
    • Take account of gender, protection, the environment, and other important cross-cutting concerns in programme design, implementation, and reporting; carry out activities in a way that reflects the needs of specific groups and individuals e.g. elderly people, minority groups, children, and people with disabilities.
    • Fill the monitoring checklists for latrines and hygiene promotion activities as well as collect user satisfaction views on safety and privacy of the latrines as well as appropriateness of the sanitation options.
    • To establish good working relationship and collaboration with other implementing agencies and work hand in hand with the existing WASH committees.
    • To assist in selecting the beneficiaries according to NRC vulnerability criteria, 
    • Participate in meeting with relevant local authorities [Ministry of Water, Ministry of Health, RUWASSA etc], sectoral working groups and other key stakeholders. 

    Specific responsibilities:

    • Work closely with the artisans to ensure new constructions, rehabilitation, repair and maintenance of WASH infrastructure retain NRC standards and quality based on the BoQs and Designs.
    • Support the WASH officer in the construction activities especially in an integrated approach with FSL related activities especially dams and water troughs.
    • Provide daily and weekly reports on routine water supply, sanitation and hygiene promotion activities to the WASH officer. 
    • Monitor WASH facilities, latrine cleanliness, usage and maintenance within the assigned project locations.
    • Support the informal and formal training sessions (according to identified needs) for hygiene promoters and evaluate the impacts of this training. 
    • Supervise Water supply and sanitation activities in line with relevant standards, codes of conduct, and humanitarian principles.
    • Supervise Sanitation activities and resources so that they are implemented and handed over or ended in a way that promotes local capacities and sustainable operations.
    • Any other assignment as may be required by the WASH Officer or WASH Coordinator

    Generic professional competencies

    • Bsc or Higher Diploma in civil, Water Resources engineering or Geology (BAC+5) minimum
    • Minimum 2 years of experience in WASH projects in a humanitarian/early recovery context
    • Technical background in Public Health, Environmental Health, Water and Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering. Extensive experience may substitute for specific qualifications but not vice versa.
    • Political and cultural awareness and experience of working where insecurity is a major issue
    • Sensitivity to the needs and priorities of disadvantaged populations (minority groups etc)
    • Demonstrated experience of integrating gender and diversity issues into WASH Programming.
    • Ability to work independently in a result oriented multi-tasking and multi-cultural environment and manage conflicting priorities
    • Familiarity with AutoCAD, GPS, ArcGIS and Google Earth is strongly desirable
    • Familiarity with international minimum standards of Water Supply, Sanitation and hygiene service delivery (i.e., SPHERE) is an advantage

    Shelter Team Leader

    Role and responsibilities

    Generic responsibilities

    • Line management of shelter project field staff 
    • Adherence to NRC policies, guidance and procedures
    • Contribute to Shelter strategy development, project proposals and provide input on needs and gaps 
    • Manage and implement delegated Shelter activities in field locations according to the budget and project’s proposal

    Education Officer

    Role and responsibilities 

    Generic responsibilities

    • Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tool, handbooks, guidelines and donor requirements including strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Policies
    • Prepare plans based on proposals, logframes and budgets
    • Implement activities in coherence with project documents

    • At least two years experience working with a national or international NGO or United Nations agency in the Northeast of Nigeria.
