    Head of Legal

    Responsibilities:

    • Legal Strategy and Policy Development: Lead and implement the company’s legal strategy to support business objectives.
    • Legal Advisory Support: Provide comprehensive and up-to-date legal advice to the GMD and the business in a wide range of areas, including contract law, corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
    • Compliance Management: Monitor and ensure that the business complies with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards. Implement compliance strategies and guidelines where necessary.
    • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify legal risks and potential legal issues within the business's operations and develop strategies to mitigate the risks and prevent legal disputes.•
    • Litigation Management: Oversee and manage all litigation and legal disputes involving the company, ensuring that all legal actions are handled efficiently and cost-effectively.
    • External Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, industry associations, and legal professionals.
    • Corporate Governance and Secretarial Duties: Oversee the company’s corporate governance framework, ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. Serve as the company secretary, maintaining corporate records and creating meeting minutes throughout board and committee meetings.
    • Stakeholder Management: Maintain strong connections with internal and external stakeholders vital to the company's interests.
    • Team Leadership and Development: Lead and effectively manage the legal team, fostering a culture of professional development and continuous improvement, while managing departmental budget and resources effectively.

    Requirements:

    • Minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience, with at least 3 years in a senior legal management role.
    • Extensive experience in corporate law, commercial law, real estate law, and litigation.
    • Good advocacy strategy and planning skills.
    • Proven track record of providing strategic legal advice to senior management.
    • Experience in dispute resolution (mediation, arbitration & litigation).
    • Advanced skills in research or investigations of facts and cases.
    • Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
    • In-depth knowledge of Nigerian legal regulatory frameworks and legal trends relevant to the industry.
