    Senior MCI Engineer

    Job Description

    • Service Type: Materials and Corrosion (MCI) Engineering Services

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure the implementation of Materials, Corrosion, and Integrity (MCI) requirements throughout the design, fabrication, testing, installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning phases of the BN project.
    • Compliance with MCI Requirement: Ensure that final products meet MCI requirements as well as the project scope of work and specifications.
    • MCI Activities Management: Oversee MCI activities during detail design, fabrication, testing, installation, and support commissioning in accordance with company policies and standards.
    • Technical Support: Address MCI-related technical queries and clarification questions from vendors.
    • System Management: Set up and manage systems required to assure the integrity of the project scope.
    • Technical Assurance: Provide technical assurance that all MCI deliverables, as defined in the Project Controls and Assurance Plan (PCAP), are completed successfully to meet project specifications and quality standards.
    • Technology Deployment: Identify, mature, and deploy value-adding new MCI-related technologies and innovations to optimize the project scope.
    • Support the testing and qualification of these new technologies.
    • Material Testing Monitoring: Monitor the testing of materials.
    • Quality Planning: Contribute to the development of a fit-for-purpose quality plan and Inspection and Test Plan (ITP), including materials management procedures for the project.
    • Learning Application: Ensure the identification and lateral application of MCI-related learnings from other projects.
    • Change Management: Contribute to the management of change processes to ensure technical integrity, efficiency, and safety of facilities.
    • Liaison: Liaise with the broader materials and corrosion organization within Shell, both locally and globally, to ensure up-to-date tools and strategies are applied in the management of materials and corrosion on the project.
    • Leadership: Provide authentic and visible leadership in HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, Environment), diversity, interpersonal and technical skills development, and cost leadership.
    • HSSEQ Compliance: Ensure all MCI activities comply with HSSEQ standards and promote a safety-first culture on-site. Enforce Shell and IOGP (International Oil and Gas Producers) HSE policies and procedures at company worksites.
    • Interface Management: Manage interfaces between MCI activities and other project disciplines, including Subsea Hardware, FPSO, and Umbilical systems.
    • Technical Reviews**: Participate in technical reviews, including HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and constructability reviews, providing expert input on MCI-related matters.
    • Industry Knowledge: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of MCI technologies, industry standards, and best practices to ensure the project utilizes the most efficient and effective methods.
    • Document Control: Ensure all MCI documentation, including reports, certificates, and records, are accurately maintained and readily available for review and audit.

    Qualifications

    • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent (preferably Materials and Metallurgy) with at least 8 years of experience in upstream Exploration and Production (EP) projects with emphasis on Design and Execution in offshore environment.
    • At least 8 years of direct experience related to materials and corrosion.
    • ACOREN registered or registerable engineer.
    • Demonstrated technical proficiency in offshore facilities design, fabrication, installation, and commissioning. Experience should include playing a key role in at least one major offshore project involving FPSO design and installation.
    • Ability to provide in-depth materials and corrosion expertise for the design, fabrication, installation, pre-commissioning, and commissioning of subsea and pipeline systems.
    • Experience working with and interfacing with mixed teams of professionals located globally.
    • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
    • Previous experience working with the Nigerian Welding Society is advantageous.
    • Capability to proactively implement plans and ensure sustained execution, meeting project milestones.
    • Ability to maintain composure under pressure while providing clear and decisive leadership.
    • Skilled in handling multiple, often conflicting, goals and priorities.
    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence, develop relationships across disciplines and cultures, coach and motivate others, and deliver results through others.
    • Ability to identify opportunities for optimizing offshore systems designs, reducing operating costs (e.g., reducing chemical injection rates), and proposing technically robust solutions to deliver value.
    • Familiarity with project development challenges in Nigeria or similar regions.
    • Good understanding and application of industry standards and codes for MCI (e.g., DNV, API, ASME).
    • Knowledge in using MS Office tools or similar software.
    • Understanding of personal and process safety.
