    Junior Technical Advisor – Peace Building & Conflict Transformation

    The Project

    Strengthening Capacities for Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution in North-Central Nigeria (PEACECORE)

    The TDA project, financed by the BMZ, aims to enhance conditions for conflict transformation in Plateau State, Central Nigeria. Recent conflicts have led to displacement and insecurity, negatively affecting agriculture, livestock farming, and overall livelihoods. This project promotes peaceful coexistence, inclusive peacebuilding, sustainable livelihoods, and food security through a participatory and inclusive approach. The project is set to run until October 2026.

    Responsibilities

    The Junior Technical Advisor is responsible for:

    • Supporting the daily operational aspects of all project-related issues
    • Assisting with technical aspects of the project
    • Supporting the Technical Advisors in their tasks

    Tasks

    Coordination of Activities & Grants Management

    • Assist in preparing and conducting project activities
    • Learn to estimate costs for project activities and coordinate with the admin team
    • Assist with organizational issues and support Technical Advisors with contract, grant, and subsidy oversight
    • Help identify the needs of communities, government institutions, and NGOs
    • Participate in formulating project action plans and synchronize planning and budgeting
    • Prepare, implement, and document training events, workshops, forums, team meetings, and other project activities
    • Support Technical Advisors with activity monitoring and achieving indicators

    Communication and Networking

    • Develop and maintain contact with all important stakeholders
    • Provide technical assistance to local and international experts
    • Ensure knowledge management, collect, process, and distribute relevant information
    • Monitor communication and interaction between government institutions, NGOs, and society through media analysis, direct dialogue, participation in meetings, and seminars

    Other Duties/Additional Tasks

    • Perform other duties and tasks as requested by management

    Required Qualifications, Competences, and Experience

    Qualifications:

    • University degree in political or social sciences, with a focus on conflict transformation, peacebuilding, political violence, or security studies

    Professional Experience:

    • Maximum of 3 years of professional experience in a comparable position

    Other Knowledge, Additional Competences:

    • Good working knowledge of ITC technologies and computer applications (e.g., MS Office)
    • Strong managerial and organizational competence
    • Willingness to travel regularly
    • Excellent knowledge of English and basic understanding of Hausa (Fulfulde understanding is desirable)
    • Willingness to upskill as required, with corresponding measures agreed with management
    • Experience in logistics and event management is desirable
    • Understanding of German development policy goals with a focus on Feminist Development Policy
    • Familiarity with administration of contracts and financing agreements/grants is desirable
    • Strong understanding of cultural aspects of Farmer/Herder conflict in Nigeria and West Africa
    • Excellent individual management skills, including time management, workload, and responsibilities

    Technical Advisor – Peace Building & Conflict Transformation

    The Project

    Strengthening Capacities for Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution in North-Central Nigeria (PEACECORE)

    • The PEACECORE project, funded by BMZ, aims to strengthen conflict transformation conditions in Plateau State, Central Nigeria. The project addresses the escalation of conflicts and the resulting displacement and insecurity, which negatively impact agricultural and livestock farming and overall livelihoods. By promoting peaceful coexistence, inclusive peacebuilding, sustainable livelihoods, and food security, the project supports conflict transformation and prevention. The project is scheduled to run for 3 years (until 10/2026) and employs a participatory and inclusive approach.

    Responsibilities and Tasks

    Responsibilities

    The Technical Advisor is responsible for:

    • Implementing daily operational aspects related to the project
    • Processing technical aspects and further developing the area of responsibility according to specified quality standards
    • Maintaining effective communication and information flow between all involved institutions, counterparts, and GIZ
    • Ensuring smooth operation of the project office

    Tasks

    Coordination of Activities & Grants Management

    • Coordinate and assist in preparing and conducting project activities
    • Manage office and transport capacities
    • Estimate and coordinate project activity costs with the admin team
    • Assist with organizational issues
    • Regularly consult with the GIZ officer responsible for the contract and cooperation on all project activities

    Administrative Assistant

    The Project: Zentrum für Migration und Entwicklung (ZME)

    • The global programme Zentrum für Migration und Entwicklung (ZME), commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ, aims to equip partner structures to assist specific target groups sustainably with regular labour and educational migration, voluntary return, sustainable reintegration, and regional migration. ZME follows the Programme Migration for Development (PME). In partnership with the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment (FMLE), PME established the Nigerian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (NGC), which provides counseling services and advice on prospects for both returning and potential migrants in Nigeria, economic reintegration support, and information on vocational and educational opportunities.
    • In the context of ZME, NGC enhances FMLE’s capacity to offer target group-specific services for regular and safe labour and educational migration, regional migration, and reintegration. This involves strengthening FMLE’s capacity for effective migration management, aligning advisory inputs with Nigeria’s needs and destination countries, and providing gender-specific support services to FMLE.

    Responsibilities and Tasks:

    Responsibilities:

    The Administrative Assistant is responsible for:

    • Providing administrative services for the ZME programme.
    • Ensuring compliance with financial and administrative tasks.
    • Updating travel and inventory tasks.
    • Working closely with Admin/Finance managers and officers.
    • Meeting the administrative needs of the project with a high degree of independence.
    • Ensuring timely completion of relevant admin processes.
    • Managing the cash box at the office in Benin.

    Tasks:

    Coordination:

    • Assist in planning activities for the programme.
    • Prepare and coordinate with partners for meetings and workshops.
    • Ensure tasks are completed within deadlines.
    • Support in organizing events for the centre.

    Travel Management, Inventory, and Logistics Functions:

    • Assist the team in preparing monthly travel and logistics support.
    • Arrange travel for the project team, including bookings and advance requests.

    • Ensure assets are properly labeled and assigned inventory numbers.
    • Coordinate logistics support with external clients and courier services.

    Administration:

    • Organize administrative and logistical aspects of programme activities.
    • Coordinate service delivery with the GIZ office.
    • Support procurement of goods and services for the project.
    • Ensure monthly fuel and diesel consumption reports.
    • Follow up on information flow and deadlines, prepare notification letters, archive documents, and organize meeting agendas.
    • Regularly check and report stationery stock levels.
    • Ensure computers and software function properly.
    • Maintain programme inventory.
    • Manage confidential files, especially in administration.
    • Support photocopying and scanning of documents as required.

    • Perform other duties and tasks as requested by management/Team Leader.

    Required Qualifications, Competences, and Experience:

    Qualifications:

    • A degree (B.Sc.) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

    Professional Experience:

    • At least 1 year of professional experience in a comparable position.
    • Experience with GIZ is an added advantage.

    Other Knowledge, Additional Competences:

    • Good working knowledge of ICT tools (software, phone, fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g., MS Office).
    • Good working ethics.
    • Proficiency in the widely used language in the country; knowledge of German is an advantage.
    • In-depth understanding of administrative processes.
    • Basic management and administration experience.
    • Willingness to upskill as required.
