    Manager, Human Resources & Planning

    • The Human Resources Manager reports to the Deputy Director HR & Planning and will be charged with the responsibility of overseeing HR functions such as recruitment, discipline, grievance, training and development, performance management, benefits administration. and data processing functions for staff of the university to make sure they are in line with the University’s standards and procedures as expressly stated in the Policy Manual.
    • The incumbent will serve as the initial contact for the HR office, and provide assistance to faculty and staff, with regards their human resources related needs in accordance with established policies and procedures of the American University of Nigeria.
    • The Manager HR & Planning supervises, develops and implements training and professional development courses for employees.
    • S/he develops HR planning strategies with Line Managers, which consider immediate and long-term staffing and requirements in terms of numbers, skill levels and retention methods; Supervises and coordinates AUN personnel and administrative activities and routines;
    • Supervises and coordinates the daily activities of personnel functions which involve promotions, staff training, professional development, recruiting, employment, compensation and benefits, general administration, reprimands, professional counseling;
    • Prepares a Human Resource information system, and constantly upgrades the database for making appropriate projections and forecasts to meet manpower demand and supply.

     Requirements for the position:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a recognized tertiary institution with at least five years’ relevant experience. A Master’s degree in Human Resource Planning and Development is preferable.
    • Considerate knowledge of cross-cultural management, specialized principles and practices of public personnel administration, including selection, classification, and compensation,
    • Considerable knowledge and characteristics of major occupational groups,
    • Ability to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form, also ability to exercise sound judgment in arriving at conclusions, and
    • Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management.

    Software Engineer

    The Software Engineer reports to the Manager Information Systems and is charged with the responsibility of managing software in accordance with the policies and usages of the American University of Nigeria. The incumbent shall provide support for users regarding software issues and also troubleshoots existing software; evaluate and identify new technologies and software relevant to educational purposes for implementation in AUN;

    • Determine system performance standards. Store, retrieve, and manipulate data for analysis of system capabilities and requirements.
    • The incumbent will also be responsible for the Implementation of internal web-space; design and deployment of web-sites for various departments in AUN;
    • Management of data storages on AUN network and of e-books repositories and other learning resources for use within AUN;
    • Implementation of e-learning technology in AUN; and Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    Requirements for the position:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering. A Master’s Degree will serve as an added advantage.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of Programming Languages and Certifications which include but are not limited to Java, .NET, HTML, JSP, JavaScript, XML, ASP, PHP, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle. Advanced knowledge of AUN supported applications.
    • Ability to learn and support new applications. Possess high level interpersonal communication skills. And adequate knowledge of AUN Policies and Procedures and the University IT Policy.

    HR Record Officer

    The HR Record Officer reports to the Human Resources Manager and the position is responsible for updating and maintaining the integrity of employee records in the Human Resources Database. The position shall ensure that accurate employee records which includes but not limited to detailing, notices of commendation, warning or discipline, performance evaluations and reviews, changes in employee qualifications and trends in employee trainings, changes in job title, job description, job classification or supervisor in as enshrined in the personnel manual and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the American University of Nigeria.

    • The incumbent coordinates the processes that enables current staff members to review their personnel record by making an appointment with Human Resources Director; Maintains confidentiality of employment records and sorting outdated records;
    • Updates employees’ records and keeps daily records of employees on the HR data base and opener;
    • Records employee data and monitors departmental changes of staff for record updates;
    • Plans record filing systems by creating hard-copy and electronic folders; files and retrieves information in accordance with departmental records management procedures;
    • Manages the location and storage of records; conducts records audit; organizes the disposal of records in accordance with their retention schedule; and Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

     Requirements for the position:

    • Bachelor's Degree and 3-5 years of human resource experience.
    • Knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Ability to analyze data and provide recommendations and maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information. Confidentiality concerning personal files and records.
    • Experience with MS-Office.
