    Field Security Officer

    Job Summary: 

    As Field Security Officer (FSO) you will assist in maintaining a safe and secure environment for CRS employees and visitors, premises, and assets in CRS Maiduguri.  You will maintain regular communication with staff during field movement in MMC/Jere.  You will ensure that CRS mandatory Safety and Security Protocols are in place, are known and understood by all CRS staff and visitors and that compliance is maintained. You will lead on the sourcing, triangulation, and coordination of relevant security information within CRS project activity areas in MMC. You will coordinate with the CRS Technical Advisor on Safety and Security on all aspects of CRS safety and security in Maiduguri. This position is contingent upon the award of the grant.

    Roles and Key Responsibilities:

    • Ensure that all CRS and visitors are familiar with CRS’s Safety and Security procedures and policies and monitor adherence. 
    •  In consultation with the Project Director and Technical Advisor, develop, consolidate, implement, and regularly review operating procedures and security plans for CRS Maiduguri. 
    •  Conduct regular training for CRS staff on CRS security procedures and policies, including Incident reporting, prevention and response mechanisms, communications, and risk analysis, fire safety, etc.
    • Conduct security briefings for CRS staff and visitors upon arrival.
    • Ensure the reporting and follow up of all security incidents in MMC/Jere.
    • Implement, maintain, and regularly update the CRS Maiduguri staff and visitors list, security communications tree and SOPs.
    • Monitor staff movement and provide security guidance to international and national staff on the current situation in operational areas.
    • Conduct regular field visits to assess security conditions and triangulate information from security sources. 
    • Ensure vehicle tracking systems are appropriate, fully resourced, and operational.
    • Ensure that contracted security guards have the capacities to perform their duties according to the SOPs.
    • Conduct monthly health and safety inspections on CRS office and GH for fire extinguishers, smoke/fire detectors and other risks.  
    • Maintain the first aid kits and hibernation kit up to date.
    • Submit regular contextual updates (weekly/monthly situational reports) to the Head of Office.
    • Represent CRS at all security related meetings in Maiduguri. 

    Required Languages - English, Hausa and Kanuri are essential. Fluency in Shuwa or Fulani are an advantage.    

    Travel - Must be willing and able to travel up to 50%.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities  

    • Excellent analytical skills with ability to detect and report inconsistencies.
    • Excellent organizational skills with great attention to detail
    • Ethical conduct in accordance with recognized professional and organizational codes of ethics
    • Proactive, resourceful, solutions oriented and results oriented.
    • Ability to work collaboratively.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the field of community engagement, risk management, safety and security management or other related field.
    • Proficient in Excel and experience with Word and PowerPoint. 
    • Previous experience in security management with NGOs is added advantage.
    • Completed formal security management trainings.
    • Ability to plan and organize work and write clear and concise reports and communicate effectively (both written and verbal).
    • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
    • Knowledge of the geography and culture of Northeast Nigeria with proven ability to read maps.
    • Stable, moral, reliable character and a good team player.
    • Proven commitment to accountability practices.
    • Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through formal and informal training.
    • Must be familiar with and committed to gender equity in programming and management practice. 

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, peace and security studies, political science, or a related field
    • Minimum of two years working in a security-sensitive environment in NE Nigeria.
